Hey fweddy we passed you lot on Napoleons hill you pulled over to let us past sorry, didn't realise it was you lot until now, remember the land cruiser and a Pajero. Were you in the black Mu, was that Arons old truck??

Believe you had to dig out at the top, did you get out OK?? We came down that way pretty nasty was at a 40 degree angle at one point. Went all the way down through the tunnels etc... and then came back up that way, knew you had dug out as it was no where near as bad going back up.

Got some pics, but the guy in the cruiser has got quite a few more, hope he will give em to me tomorrow at work.

Hey Daz

I saw the ORE sticker on your back window. I was in the white Cruiser in the lead (Backed up and chatted to the folk in the VX Cruiser).

The MU belongs to my sister's boyfriend he got it from Blenhiem. My father was in the shiney Prado, who was chatting to you halfway up that bank you lost traction on. Did you go over the next steep hill. The MU tried getting up it but failed. I went round it to see what was on the other side first.

Good thing we met you where we did and not a bit further up. I got up the papa ok (second try) but I parked up the top and helped make the ledges for the MU and shiney. Part way through the digging the MU wanted to go up to show he could get up where the cruiser did! About that time that early 90's prado came the opposite way and they stood round and watched us dig out. Got our shiney up ok after the digging and the other truck went down.

Then after we got on the trail again we met a pretty standard surf with three young people.

Apart from that we only met three quads at the top. When we first started at the Waipuna end there was a team of trail bikers but they were stuck at a crossing, the river was a bit high and swift for them to get through.

We had a camera in each vehicle and will get some pics up here when I can get hold of them.

Arrrr OK nice one m8, yeah got up the the next steep hill pretty easy with a bit of gas, think Ive got a small vid somewhere. Needed a little more gas on the part you saw me loose traction, didn't look as bad as I thought  Glad you got out OK, we joined up with the bloke in the 90's Prado on the way back, he told us you were digging out.

A few pics

Good pics

I figured you woulda got up there ok with a bit of a better go.

We missed the second tunnel (first one from your end) as after coming through the northern one we turned hard left and round over the tunnel and through the narrow bush track and came down just at the south end of the other tunnel, fairly short steep drop back into the creek but I went down ok (one wheel off) then again dad did some gardening to get his truck down. If Dad went too many times it would be a highway!! :)

Must do a weekend write up with photos of what else we did - saw many locked gates - too many locked gates even new one's on tracks in Sibley's book... hardly used any recovery gear except two shovels until about an hour before dark on Monday I got totally stuck, had to use winch, hilift, strop etc to get out - all fun...

Mainly because there was no bank on the drivers side, until what you can see in front of my truck, so not much choice really. Yeah not really my preferred line  I know

That's the way I first attempted it on the way up but as Daz says there is no ledge on that side all the way and I ended up with one wheel way off the ground and then tilted over on to the other. Felt like about a meter tilt but was prob more like ½.

We got the other vehicles up by straddling after we cut a ledge on that side, made it lots easier if less exciting.

That heavy rain must of modified things, the 'well worn track' down the river out the north side was just a few spots you could see vehicles had been on either side of the rearranged river bed
