New job, New Mods for hilux

Hey guys im down to the last three for a job in invercargill when i finish uni in october this year. So if i get it there will be some cash for mods and i have a couple of questions

Firstly is there anyone on here from invercargill :!:

Secondly i want to put a diff lock in the rear which i have spoken to steve about and will come up for a weekend and hire his services for that if he is cool with that but i also want to put some bigger tyres on it. It is a 1992 3.0l v6 surf with standard suspension. I was thinking 32 - 33 inch mud tyres but think i will definitley need to left it first is it cheaper / easier to do a body lift or suspension lift??

I remeber seeing on a post on here about buying buying the body lift blocks for about $75 US plus postage. Which would allow the best chance of getting bigger tyres under the girl?

Hey great to hear there is a few of you down that way!!!
Are there a few good places for 4wd trips and / or hunting aswell? Where abouts in southland are you?

Go the body lift for a cheap fix dude. Just find someone with a lathe and get them to turn up some blocks out of alloy or nylon.
If I remember correctly mine cost me $120 for a 50mm b/lift complete with all the bolts and nyloc nuts :D

Sounds like the way to go then body lift then some taller tyres. What is actually involved in putting the new blocks in ie: do you have to have something to lift the body from the original mounts etc? And does it require certification?

At this point in time any body lift requires a cert. so do bigger tyres and wheels at the same time (same cost for one mod or all mods).

In the future this may be relaxed but dont hold your breath.

so what would certification cost if i did this and do you have to certify the bigger tyres too if they are above the manufactures standard ones?

My cert cost me $380ish and was for wider wheels (more than 25mm offset from std track), larger diametre tyres (5% variance allowable before cert), new engine (recert for the chev v6 done just to get all on new plate), 35mm body lift (alters body mass and centre of gravity for braking) and seats.

All cost the one price of 380ish or could be done for 380ish each (no thanks).

Now no worries with WOF or insurance. Went to a guy here in auckland.
