certification
certification
hi im in chch an have almost finish lifting my surf an doing a few other things all i need now is to get it all certified. Could any advise of a place to go in chch an approx how much will it cost :sniper:
When i brought the truck it had another engine and gearbox installed, it was certed for an engine, gearbox, new engine mounts and front diff mount. I didn't like how the engine and front diff mounts were built so i am changing them. The cert plate was not specific on what was done just to say a certain family of box was installed and seeing as the box is a weak one i am changing out the box for another from the same family but the new box is stronger and longer by about 80mm so will have to move the transfer case backwards and possibly muck about with drive shafts.
In general i am just trying to make the truck stronger and more reliable, so would i get away with improving things a little without being picked up about it?.

I'm no expert, but I would assume that if you haven't changed anything thats written on the cert plate then you should be OK. if you are doing lots of new welding then make sure its hidden the next time you go for a WOF, a bit of paint followed by a few runs through some shitty mud should hide all welds good enough.

If you modify or change what it was certified for it must be re-certified.
Certification isnt dont just for a laugh...its to make sure your vehicle is safe for you ,your family & other people on the road.
If something should go drastically wrong & the police investigate you will get caught you wont have any insurance etc.
Often the the certifier takes digital pics of modifications so be very careful.

i understand that but my engineer friend said he didn't like how the mounts looked to him and said they didnt look well made.
The reason why i am changing the gearbox is because the original one was broken beyond repair and trying to find a replacement box of the same type is very difficult and expensive.
So i am using what i have, being the stronger type of gearbox from the same family and improving the engine/diff mount.
