!!5 weeks!!

Post by Engineer »

 In 5 weeks time my new 1uzfe will be sitting in my garage! Cant wait. I'll be slotting it into my LN130 along with OME suspension, eventually bigger tires when my 31" scorpions get flogged, bodylift ofcourse, two custom snorkels and ofcourse a lokka in the front.
Should be good.

Im hoping to retain my standard a343f trans, so ive looked at some bellhousings that dellow do, or i might just have to get an adapter for my transfer case onto the lexus trans. dunno yet, just throwing things up in the air :? just see what happens.

This is a fairly common conversion so does anyone know of where i can get engine mounts or just best to make my own? its no biggy but im a slack prick an would rather just spend the coin an buy them
Any helpfull suggestions, hints an tips would be great.

Cheers Ryan.

Not sure you can run dual intakes on a Lexus unless yor are planning on running a link (or after market). factory computer requirea a maf the link is a bit easier to wire up but takes a bit to get cold start to work.

I had to load a new map to get off the skifields in my EVO and reload the road map when it was warm so went everywhere with a laptop. I think that aftermarket comp would have less issues wireing up, but good luck and there seem's to be a lot of bits on trademe for these too.

These may give you some tips http://users.tpg.com.au/mtleslie/project/project.htm

other suspension mods might be a ball joint lift but thats no priority.
thinking bout finding a solid axle an doin that while the turcks in pieces but ill just see what happens im not to worried either way.

You will probably need a bodylift of about 2in to complete the engine swap.

Those engine mounts on trademe are for 2wd Lux's I think. A new intake flange will need to be made to run dual inlets.

I don't know of anyone running an auto with full auto option using a Link, all the auto swaps require a factory ECU to control the trans. You can wire them up manually and shift them yourself but full auto would be the go.

yea my sequence of events is as follows..clean engine when arrives, check timing belt etc, water pump and all the normal stuff. finish off my bodylift i have started it just havent finished half the donuts  strip engine bay out, take my trans an bell housing off along with the lexus gear and see what the go is, see what combo i can come up with, im not to worried i can make my own bellhousing etc if i cant find something so its no biggy if i need to, or if i run with lexus trans, make or hopefully get a adapter off jafa (buddy pal if your reading this  ) for the transfer case. with all that sorted fit the bodylift. strip engine bay of everything thats not needed and get the engine an trans combo sitting in place to see how to mount her up.
im hoping if i can run the lexus gear that my auto sparkie mate might be able to do something fansy pants to run the full auto cos itd be ideal!!! (fingers crossed aye). And then make some mounts and yea then theres all the other crap to put in an hook up.
Cant wait for it to arrive to get started but at the moment im having trouble getting a decent workshop to work in, got acouple goodies just gotta finalise one but its 20km's outta town, however ill do whatever it takes.
Mates got a full machine shop so thats good an we have good gear at work just need a CNC mill or machining center to make things easier

Pete i hope to have her done by christmas  alot before christmas to be honest but just have to see how things go. itll start with a hiss and a roar but im sure ill get sick of it pretty quick  all good.

Cheers Guys,
Ryan

P.s i need a good project name any suggestions??

well i was talking to phil from NZEfi bout an hour an a half ago bout it, theres a new product out that is a trans controller which can run inconjunction with the link, it will shoift at a certain rpm with so much load etc etc and its approx $600 theres also another one a fancy thing that will allow you to use paddle shift etc etc. as cool as that would be i dont need it.gunna get in contact with them on friday for more details an definate pricing. still at a lose end for a good shed which is a pain but got awhile to try find one.
still unsure what to do about the trans combo, but ill get there. going to look at one tomorrow night a blokes done down here, hes gone manual but had to adapt a the transfer case onto it so itll be good to see how hes done it.

I don't know how hard the trans controller will be to wire in, you need to allow additional time/cost for that.

Also it certainly won't get anywhere near the quality of the factory setup though as that reduces power between shifts and does a bunch of other cool stuff.

Don't discount the factory ECU, they are pretty good. By the time you get an aftermarket ECU, wire it in, get the trans controller and wire it in then get everything tuned you will be talking about some significant money.

Unless you plan to mod the motor or go manual then the factory ECU might be a good option.

yea thats true, wonder how hard itd be to find a factory loom and ecu?
the engine im getting has a half cut loom thats why i was looking at the link. the factory ecu would be easier

You probably don't want to buy a loom and ECU separate from the motor if you can avoid it. Apparently there are a few different versions of ECU and the looms will no doubt be different as well.

Best option would be to get a complete motor with trans and loom and ECU. These go for about $1800-2000 on trademe.

Yea get everything together if you can, I'm using the 1KZ ECU to control the Auto and the factory 2JZ ECU .. with full auto, so it is possible... in fact it was the easiest way!

Ive just written this in the thread hilux build 2 but ill put it here too.
Im not worried bout having to shift the auto myself now, whocares

i just happened to remember last nite my mates bro just put a lexus into his older hilux and is running a trans, guess what its a a343f!! they bolt straight on all you gotta do is take the input shaft from a lexus trans and pump and put them in the hilux trans and your away laughing, this is because the hilx shaft is too long. what hes doing bout his trans is taking it to bruce hughes in winton an getting it hard wired an bruce will either leave the shifter or he'll put buttons on steering wheel if thats what you want for about $300!! im stoked as. engine mounts are nothing!

Im stoked i was able to see how this was all done im going for it now i just gotta wait for the engine to arrive!!

Bring it on!

SWAMPA no sorry i didnt get your PM. Try again maybe? Or if you wanna get in contact my number is 021-1550705 or 027-3885859

well its changed from 5 weeks to friday
scored a lexus plus trans etc etc for $900 plus $100 shipping from wellington mitsubishi motors :thumright:
thats $400 all up cheaper than i could get from down here!! and i get it in couple days :D

so gunna do body lift in couple weeks, get the starter motor checked an swap lexus input shaft outta trans into the hilux trans. then she'll be all go.

Cheers Ryan.
