Are you going to have some way of locking the drop out rods so when you jack it to change a wheel you dont need to jack it 10 feet in the air to get the wheel of the ground? Or am I missing some of the details in this setup? By the way, very nice job, I want one.

thanks for the compliments. The easiest way to jack it up will probably to chain or strap the diff to the chassis rail before lifting, or mebbe I'll come up with a plan to use the hub....

Anyways, heres some more Hilux porn!

Got the rear hubs and drive plates finished, just about to fit an old diff head and measure up for new axles, I'll turn them up tonite and an electrode to erode the splines in the drive plates. Then setup the dividing head on the mill to spline the axles. That shuld keep me busy for the rest of the week

A bit of progress on the axles this week
You can see the difference in length compared to a stock rear axle, this will give me 100mm more track per side.

Built a jig for rotating the front knuckle balls today, chucked the front diff in the lathe and put some grooves in next to the factory welds, then with the help of a bar thro the kingpin holes, rotated the balls  to point the pinion at the TF case flange, then layed down a root run and will finish it of tomorrow, then its onto coilover mounts, 4 link mounts and strengthening, tho not to the extremes that Reece went

strengthening, tho not to the extremes that Reece went
got three housings here that are bent from road use  all bent up at the edge of the diff housing, next one I brace will be braced at about the 10 oclock position accross the diff head, based on how these ones had bent.... going to be doing some new axles soon that shouldn't need any bracing 8) anyway
Damm you have all the toys Jafa "insert green with envy icon  " lathe large enough to swing a housing 8)
More more :D

 Nice jafa, like the notcher  the head alone is worth more than most professonal units hell you could probably buy the drill as well  Damm I wish I had your workshop!!

I know you don't want the weight I've put in mine but I'd sugest a bit of bracing from the end of the tube brace to the end of the axle tube
Its just the research I did on pirate and few other places showed there is a weak link where the swivel ball housing ends inside your axle .... alot of guys who jumped them bend em there

Yer its aint finished yet, the area on the ends will be stronger once i build in the coilover mounts.

I have drawn it all up on Solidworks and it'll all fit nicely within the gap between my a340 and geardrive TF, I'll shorten the main shaft at both ends and put 23 splines in one end and 21 in the other, CNC up an alloy housing and she's all go  I'll put up some pics when its ready. My biggest issue is keeping it all supplied with oil, think I'll utilize the oil pump out of the chain drive case

I rotated them so that the angle between the diffhead mounting face and the axis of the kingpin is 25 degrees, this will give me about 10 degrees of caster with the pinion pointing at the tf flange at ride height. Course that all changes as soon as the suspension cycles

Ok got a bit of work done on the front end, got the coilover hoops tacked up, and the diff hangin in there...sort of.

Image

the pipe going from the shock hoop to the diff is the length of the coilover at ride height, the one going from one hoop to the other just sets the distance.
Next is to fully weld it all and add plates and braces between hoops and chassis rails, there will also be a strut brace going in too, but that'll come later after teh motor is in.

Image

Heres a little shot of the coilovers  Seeing as I'm not made of money, and cant afford the primo Fox's or Kings, I'm gonna make my own.
They are based on a Rancho 9000XL which are new out. They have a 70mm body :o Extended length - 920mm Compressed - 530 Nitrogen filled, not as flash as the good ones, but at 99USD each they'll do.
the coils are of a Supra, grey ones are rears and blue ones are stiff fronts 2nd hand off trademe for fiddy bux :D
