Surf re-power
Surf re-power
if one was to repower a 1990 Surf with a cooked 2LT engine, what engine would you recommend?
Supra?
Lexus V8?
rebuild 2LT?
others?

I supplied my best mate with an 85 surf fitted with a Toyota 3L (2.8 diesel) and think its a great compromise between on road economy and offroad ability, having low down torque. He finds it leans out and stalls on angles and doesn't rev hard enough.
Which Supra engine are you referring to?
1UZ V8s lack low down punch and are a bloody big job. Go for the holden v6 as recommended by rokhound and spankmeister. They make great torgue low down and are disgustingly frugal for their capacity.

What gearbox and transfercase are you using? how long will it end up?
i am using the standard v6 auto and a t100 seperate transfer from a datsun 720 , which are a compact bulletproof unit , not to sure of length as yet cause mtr and box still in car but motor is very short and i am having radiator in the back plus am using 5dr scudo chassis which is about 230mm longer , cheers

$130 you lucky SOAB! I have been holding out for a 3.8 and 5 speed but I certainly hav'nt come across any 3.8 and autos for that money! If I had of I would have one already. well done

Can't wait to see your build.

Mullet go to your insurance company and ask them to call you when one turn's up. Buying one the insurance company written off is a really good option I know one mate got his second v6, it was a tricked up v6 out of a rolled police car for $250, and selling the extra bits after he got the car it cost him nothing more to fit (parts paid for the bell housing fuel lines etc).
Good luck and another vote for the V6, remember those with the V6 you need to look at the sump for capacity and oil pickup, there are a few that have suffered due to no oil on angles.
They are a shorter motor than the 4cyl and the torque means diff gearing can stay std with larger tires in some cases.

How the heck does a diesel lean out on angles???? its injected?
Turns out I'm that much of a cheap arse that the problem lay in too little fuel in the tank.

I never had it above 1/4 tank.
Went out yesterday and filled it first to check, thats all it was.
Still doesnt rev hard, saf-arse-ari still leaves me behind.
The V6 gets my vote too.

Insurance is usualy an auction they will call "unrelated" interested parties but if it is your 4x4 they will not call in case of insurance fraud or some other excuse.
Funny we would pay more because of the bit's we can reuse on the replacement.
but good luck and State AMI etc have a damaged viehicle notification in the papers too.

You can get another 2Lt for almost nothing cant you?
With any engine swap youll spend 4 times longer doing it than driving it.
unless you pay someone to do it and thats like 6 or 8k.
But yeah, enough being a poopey pants..... I fitted a p76 V8 to my suzi and occasionaly it works and no engine ever made sounds as glorious as rover v8s going hard.
but ergh...old and crap go for lexus v8
(or a TVR motor if you have a million dollars)

Just a little background info.
Timotheus is Dutch. Disgusting. He has short arms, long pockets, ears that stick out, hair that is constantly slicked back and he squeaks when he walks. Not too bad elsewise. Now drives my nana's old surf.
