Which battery???????

Post by TJ »

I need to replace my battery. I don't have a winch yet, but it should be coming soon after. Space is limited in the engine bay so some of the larger truck batteries (like Endurant IDC31DT) are out of the question. Out of Optima and Orbital, which one would you recommend?

Also where is the best place to buy them at the least cost? Name of the place would be helpful.

Thanks.

I've got 2x Exide batteries in my truck that are getting close to 5 years old and they're still cranking the engine and winch over ok. I can't remember what type/rating they are but I think they're labeled as Truck/Tractor?

Might just be good luck them lasting that long

If space is limited, then definately look at the Optima gel range (red top, yellow top etc). For a given CCA rating, they are physically 10-15% smaller than a conventional lead/acid battery.

Thanks for your replies. I believe both Orbital and Optima are similar (if not identical) design and construction, but made by different companies and sold at different prices.

I am just trying to get an idea of what other people are using who have had to use them for winching.
