Synthetic Winch Rope

Post by sarmajor »

Ok I give in here.
Where in NZ can I buy some synthetic winch rope, I have found on the web "Braun" from Aussie "X Line" from Rockcrawler.com "AmSteel Blue" from RockStopmer.com and of course the Warm synthetic replacement rope but have not found anywhere to purchase this in NZ YET.

Thanks

Interesting, i seem to keep thinking about this synthetic winch rope.

Just a crazy calculation based on my winch as to what rope i would need to make it still the weakest like and not bust shear pins:

15000 lb, lbs = 6.8038856 metric ton
So even the smallest 8mm rope would be more than adequate.

$240 for 30 meters.

Now we're talking.
No more crushed wire rope, winch a bit, stop, relay the cable, winch a bit more and so on and so on. Just reel her out, engauge the PTO and stamp on it while some one makes sure its not bunching up.

Carry old 30m Steel cable as extention.

Any ideas on shipping mike??
Wouldn't be more than $20 and that would still make it cheaper than anyone will sell it to me for up here at this stage!!!!

Hey there diesel boy, a guy down here, Roger mckay uses that plasma rope stuff on his compatition truck and he added a bit to the outside of his drum, about 30mm i think, just got 2 disks of alloy cut out and welded them on. Then you can get lots more rope on!! :D

Hi Guys, Ive got 40m of 14mm synthetic on my 9000lb super winch,I got it from delta 4wd parts in Christchurch for $430.00 spliced including the hook, bloody great stuff you can have it coiled up sitting on your lap ready to throw out to your winch bitch its also easy to splice if it breaks just by using a chain saw file and poking it back thru its self

Yeah, i'm really keen to give it a go, steel cable is a major pain in the ass to use.
I figure if i make a Vinyl cover to go over the drum, its gonna keep the sun and 90% the crap of it and preserve it for a lot longer.

I have 58 meters steelcable on my drum, but really, as the synthetic stuff is $$, i'll just go with 30m and use extentions if i have to.
