Yes there needs to be some size there otherwise there would just be a lot of splashing and mucking around on the surface, so in this size does matter.

Those guy's with bigger ones are in and out and done sooo fast they don't even break a sweat, talk about booring and they think the size is all the technique they need! :?

Then you get guys with the average ones, they work it more and have a lot better technique, some even get out and poke and prod and have a few other tricks to make it all happen! :D

Then you get the small ones, I have found that these guy's whilst having vastly superior technique and a lot of tricks do so much work to get in... they still can't overcome my dissapointment! yes it all hapens most of the time but when it misses it really misses.

so in summation I prefer the guy's with average ones they think about it more get in and have a play and give it a really good go! and will poke and prod and check things out more carefully before getting in.

But remember you can't get away jumping into and out of any hole, you will get caught out one day!

So I drive on 33s, does that mean I can just drive over anything? No way. Sorry mate but I still get out and check where I'm going. I used to drive on 30s, that was when I had to learn my 4wding technique to drive the rough stuff, then went to 31s then to 33s, soon to 35s. Do you think I have lost the skills I learnt while driving around on 30 inch tyres? Just coz I have bigger tyres doesn't mean I am not going to check where I am driving. I still want my truck in one piece at the end of the day.
Having bigger tyres doesn't always make it easier, it means I can maybe get further with less damage to my truck and the terrain I'm driving. It also tends to mean when I get stuck, I get more stuck too.

The larger they are the more they tend to rub on whats around them, more so than the smaller ones, the tiger balm makes sure they move smoothly when rubbing.

In some cases who really cares if the track gets a bit more ripped up! Some places it seems to me that there is much effort to limit 4x4 use to protect the tracks for 4x4 use.

This is precisly why many tracks and areas for four wheeling have been permanently closed. Not an attitutde that will allow continued access for much longer.

The direct question to that is, "why?" (remembering this is in the setting of some areas that are 4x4 tracks for the sake of 4x4ing, not some one's lawn or doc land that is environmentally fragile or scenic landscapes or a private farm where the owner chooses not to have it etc etc)

Of course I understand that you've only taken the wee portion of my comment which was balanced by other points. And I totally understand the reality that the attitude is not appreciated. But I think the attitude is perceived more than real is a number of cases. As soon as shingle is ruffled, or grass is made uneven or smooth surface turned to rough, or some dirt slides down a slope, that is seen as bad.

Ralfie wrote:The I don't give a damn who is going to be coming behind me today, next week or in years to come attitude is a selfish one and one too many people seem to adopt. It is this attitude that closes the door on access.
It's not actually, its the perception of the person closing it off — but I do agree that many times they have good reason for doing so when people express that selfish attitude and make it hard for every one else.

Ralfie wrote:But I suppose enjoy it, rip it up what the hell, while you can.
Hehe the way of expressing it is a bit random, but in the right place, right time, why not? There are worse things that that - and of course there are some places where this is appropriate and even set aside for it which is very relevant. Just like certain times and places are appropriate for the other topic in this thread

In saying all this I have modest truck with only 31s!

Depends on what you drive.

Those Toyota drives have to use alot as they try squeeze larger ones into smaller areas.

Suzuki Drivers dont need to worrie about it as there small ones never touch the sides.

It varies with nissan drivers, i find i dont need to use any on the rear on mine.

most of the tracks i try to get out in have been used by the winch challenges over the years and have fairly decent holes so i run tyres that will enable me to get into those same places. if was doing shiny club runs and that was all then 33's would be ok. some people have rules to drive on thier private property, fair enough. some competitions have rules limiting tyre size, thats cool.

me ? i have big tyres and a big engine ...not compesating for anything

And you still followed us boys on 33's, 35's and 37's, was it a problem: no, we all had a great day, we all got through and we all wegot home. That's the beauty of an ORE trip, the bloody variety
