Thompsons track

Post by dazza85 »

I have heard conflicting stories about this track so I thought I would run a poll to see what people would do ...

Please post comments to support your point of view.

Have you done it ??

How far have you gone ??

Which end did you start from ??

YOU DONT HAVE THE "FROM TE AROHA TO KATIKATI FOR A BEER AT THE PUB AND RETURN SAME DAY " OPTION ......

if you have a good strong vehicle and a mate with a good strong vehicle, both with winches and all reco gear and you both have adaquite skills then its a very coooool track, big holes, good winching to be done and reasonably technical to get the right lines in the bogs

good fun

As Wopass said a couple good trucks can get to katikati for lunch and back to Te Aroha for a beer by early afternoon,,,Or take three or 4 less capable trucks and you could spend a day and half a night or more getting one way.

Monstr and I have gone Te Aroha to Katikati end and back to the summit in five and a half hours....

From what I've heard that is not an option ... a least not without a chopper ...

When did you last go over the track ??

I understand there is an impassable bog called the tennis courts just before the Katikati end

called the bomb site or bombing range, not impassable at all. as mudzilla said,he and monstr went over and back not long ago in less than 6hrs. good trucks well set up and good drivers with good winch men and its a fun day. take a few aucklanders with no brains and theyre in there till someone rescues them

Carefull some of us reading this thread

On that note I have heard that some fools have dumped all sorts of rubbish in the bog holes in the bombing range. Can cause damage when winching through.

But what would I know - I`ve only driven past the KatiKati end in the work wagon.

Skid, you need to fit a 60 or 70 serise PTO. That will deal to the bombing range no problem  8)

Sweet as Wayne, give me some warning before you are going though next time - I can run out the rope no probs

Skid, unless you are going through mid summer after ages of no rain I wouldn`t try going though without a winch - unless you like camping in mud over night
