1991 Proceed back door problem

Post by ant982 »

The back window on the 91 Proceed is electricallyu opened from the dash mine does not. I am assuming blown fuse but I have checked (visually and with a meter) all the fuses on the fuse panel and they are all ok.

Please help

Check that there is a power supply to the release mechanism at the rear door when switch is operated with a test light or voltmeter (test light easier), power = faulty mechanism, no power = check power being supplied to the switch on the dash and for power coming out of the switch when operated, power supplied but no output = faulty switch, power coming from output check the circuit relay if it has one, again for power going in and power going out, easiest and least complicated way of checking this is to bang another relay that you know is working (e.g. headlight relay) in the position of the suspect relay.

Hope this helps you out dude. If you still can't get it sorted probably best to just take it to someone who knows what they are talking about.

Good luck. Oh and let us know how you get on.

Oh and before you condemn your release mechanism also check your earth. I'm not sure but it may earth itself. If it comes to having to take it out, before you go by a new one, just connect a 12V battery to the mechanism and make sure that it doesn't work. Not a good feeling when you spend a weeks wages on something and it was'nt even that in the first place.

Thanks for the help.
I wanted to detail the repair for anybody else who might find the same problem on their Proceed.
I found that there was no supply to the dash switch (probably a faulty safety switch on the handbrake as originally you had to pull on the handbrake to operate the dash switch for the back window)so I took a line from the permament 12V supply from the back of my head unit (which comes form the battery anyway) and ran that to the dash switch and from the switch I ran it down the length of the vehicle hiding the cable under the door kick plates and other plastic mouldings till I reached the loom as it exited the vehicle on its way to the back door. Here I spliced the new cable to the original cable and then tested the repair and it worked (thankfully as it was after midnight and I wanted to watch the America's Cup racing).
Again thank you for the pointers truck-fixer
