hi guys ive just put a warn 8274 winch on my hilux and are going to use steel cable on the drum.....
noticed throughout my travels over the years that some people use the hawse type fairleads that are steel instead of the roller type when using the wire rope
so are the steel type fairleads suited for only wire winch rope i take it???and not plasma???
anyhelp would on this would be magic guys
thanks
fairlead help
The only issue you need to worry about either way is that there are no sharp bits on either from the wirerope
I know some guys that don't like the roller type fairleads from having issues with rope fouling in the corners
I've never had this happen with mine or on any of the logging machines I've used that have the bigger version
Cheers Reece

from what i saw they had alloy ones...
would they wear as quick?
and is a roller fairlead nicer/gentler on the plasma stuff than a hawse type setup?
Use alloy fairlead with plasma rope. A steel one if brand new might be OK but will retain friction heat longer and cause damage to the rope. You can use a roller fairlead but if the rope jams under the roller you stuff your rope.
Use either a steel hawse or roller fairlead for wire.
