replacing head - remove timing belt??

Post by scarfie »

I am on my mission to get this job done...

Is it really necessary to remove the timing belt like the manual says
when replacing head gasket??

What engine?

On most yes you have to but you can use clothes peg's to hold the belt onto the other pulleys and use lipstick to mark where the cam and belt tooth line's up.

I would still re-check timing as things move but you have a huge head start. God Luck :D

Just put the engine at TDC firing on number one, with some twink mark a like across the belt and pulley tooth on both pulleys then whip the belt off, to put it back on just line up the white twink marks, then Bob's your uncle.

one of the handiest things i have in my toolbox is a white paint marker it is surprising how often it comes in handy well worth the money
my 4wd is not a truck

old mercedes never die but sometimes they do need some love

older cars are good, mercedes are better, older mercedes are the best
