How does "24 hour" compare to Thompsons ??

I would be keen to run this trip when my new truck is up and running! Winch's would be needed tho i have done this track a few times and without a winch it would take more than 24hr's

Those photos are from about 5 years ago so id imagine is got worse since.

Ill have access to the akkas shortly so could look into running a trip in there. A good winch, mud tyres pleanty of recovery gear would be needed and prob a max of 5 trucks.

Dazza, not sure how they compare as i have not tackled thompsons YET!! :D They sound similer though, shity bog after shitty bog.

Hey doddzee, Ive got vid from I think it was that trip. The vehicles in those photos are on the vid.

Doddzee, dad (on 33's and nissan motor) and a TJ j**p have done the whole thompsons track. We got out just after dark from memory. Was a few years ago though, so its probably worsened over the years. The jeep was fairly standard aswell. Ive got photos somewhere

Getting into there requires insurance and an ARAC trip leader, so it will need to be run as an ORE assn trip and we will need an ARAC approved trip leader.

Perhaps those of us without winches can tag along and park up and watch or something, or find a 2nd leader and run it as a dual trip.

Not quite true, anyone from a club can request a key from the council to lead a trip and if your given a key and have there councils permission then you area allowed in there without ARAC approval. Many clubs do this. At the moment their are no offical ARAC Trip leaders as they made it that if you didnt atten the training your ARAC status was whiped. Therefore the trip with the crusier club over QBW there was not an offical trip leader there as non of them attended the training. ARAC is a group who train tripleaders and work with the council to keep access for rec purposes.

No its not a loop, it would be approx 4 km long, there is no set direction either with a few capable trucks you can do it both ways in a day, but if you get break down in the middle it is a pain in the arse to get dead vehicles out. There is also the rollercoaster, 10hr, staircase and firewood loop tracks which are all fairly difficult. CCVC is doing a trip through the 10hr next weekend both ways. People can come along and leave their trucks at the start if they wish to watch.

Wacko, yip those pics are dads and rogers trucks. They all start out mint, rogers was a showroom condition kings road when he bought it.

Thats not my understanding of how Access works, There is a list of ARAC approved trip leaders held by the council, which you get after doing training. We had Insurance and a Permit at QBW and Chris was already a Trip leader, there were a number that weren't able to attend due to the short notice of the training.

i would agree with that, it looks very similar, the only difference being the soil looks like it actually has some traction to be gained on it whereas thompsons is just gluggy clay....mostly

looks like a good fun track

Yes they do have a list but if you were to organise an ORE ASS trip, fill out a permit etc they you could get access.

You had insurance and a permit so there was no problem with you being in there but as no-one has been apointed a ARAC tripleader yet since their last training where they removed all current trip leaders there are not any at the moment. That training was held a week or two before QWB.
