Big River is a Grade 2, went in there on my own at xmas time.
If there has been a lot of rain, the creek at the end of the road , just down from the DOC hut, can be running high.

When we did it, about a year or so ago, it was pretty straight forward as far as directions go. Was one place there was a hole in the track but nothing you won't spot if you take it easy and keep your eyes on the track.

We found it was great for the drivers but some of the passengers got a bit sick of it, there is a fair bit of bumping round etc but the scenery and bush is great. Keep an eye out for Kakas we saw a few of them when walking in the bush near the track.

We didn't find much mud etc except a hole at tintown.

The river mentioned above and one part way in are the only real issues if the weather is not good, if in doubt, esp when by yourself be prepared to turn back if needed. If you get to the last one, just park up and walk from there (if you can get yourself across :))

Its an easy track, no snorkel or mud grips req, take a chainsaw if there has been bad weather though coz if you're the first there will be trees ect on the track
Have a fun time, stick to the gravel track though ALL the muddy spots aren't on the main track :!: DOC, locals and others take a hard line on those straying from the track, if you wanna have a play don't go to Big River, if you want some sight seeing/historic relics and light entertainment it's an awesome spot....have fun
