sarted thinking!!!!!!!

Post by hiriklux »

All right guys been pricing snorkles and a roof bar setup for my hilux somthing heavey duty being a builder well lets start with the snorkle $300   for a crappy plastic one jesus and then the roof bars $200   .................so i started thinking   what if i went the whole hog and made a snorkle and a roof bar setup ........ shit just make a whole roll cage with the snorkel and roof bars built in so stopped off at the tool shop on the way home to see about a pipe bender......... yep they've got one .......... f*** it lets have a go so i bought it for less than snorkle and roof bars......bargain:D :D nice and shiney new.........all good so far
now need a bit of help!!!
firstly attaching roll cage at front its gonna be external so i pulled the wing off and had a bit of a look there's part of the body just infront of the door that looks like it might take the weight of a knock or two with a bit more bracing what do you guy's think??
also what size tube do you think ill get away with as i want to keep it as light as possible but strong enough??? the snorkle will be 76mmx1.6mm wall on passenger side and form part of the cage so might do same on drivers side then brace it across the body with some smaller 50 mm tube
to keep the overall weight down i thought well hey i'll make a flatdeck and dump the factory ute bed then i can get the rear of the cage onto somthing substancial at the back :D :D anyway thought id run it by you guys before i get started any input welcomed good or bad

Cheers for that link tom :D i did as he suggested and if i want a 90 degree bend in 3" pipe with my bender im gonna need the lenghts a mile long so its a welded snorkle :D :D and the rest is going to have to be done in 1 1/2 and 2" pipe as this bends in shorter radiuses
cheers RIK
