engine replacement or conversion in 89 delica

ok. My bro has rebuilt a Delica into a camper and tow wagon for his zuk. great idea, plenty of room and it gets him many places. problem is the engine has finally died.

has anyone ever replaced the delica engine with something different? like a VR4 or a commodore 6 or what-have-you

speedtech in wellington repowered there tow vehicle (L300) with an evo engine - dont think the gearbox liked it too much though Not sure whether it was bolt in (to gearbox) though

guessing bellhousing should be the same both 4G63 motors I believe??
