Anyone had any thoughts about this brand. See plenty on Trademe and started to think. (rather strange but never mind)

Its always a problem when you start thinking......especially out loud lol.

Haven't geard anything really bad about these winches. They seem OK but how many people are actually using them?

I note the comment about the warranty......
They have a factory warranty of 12months when used according to the manufactures instructions
.

Wonder what the instruction say. Warn were even declining warranty claims on their winches a few years a go if they were filled with mud and water. Apparently using them in mud invalidated the warranty. Same would apply here is this is the case.

If you can be bothered waiting, get one from http://www.made-in-china.com/showroom/kings4wd/product-detailmqenlwVHhJIK/China-Electric-Winch-9500LB-.html.
The same winch is made under license at like a billion factories under different names.

I have too much spare time....
Some say they wont do single orders but others do.
I looked into a 12000pounder and it was 400USD (500nz) from memory.

Go the dollar...

Runva will sell you a winch one at a time. Found them very helpfull. The hardest part is the shipping. Runva will not become involved with the shipping internationally, however after asking nicely they have agreed to ship a winch half way across China for me to a different sea port where I could piggy back onto a container which some aquaintances are sending over on a regular basis.
Big advantage is the Kiwi / US dollar at the moment. A 10000lbs hydraulic winch complete with the lines, valves etc. costs a little over $400 US or about $520.00 NZ (about 1/3 the buy now of the one on TM).
A standard 10000lbs electric winch cost $192.00 US or about $250.00 NZ
For that sort of money you can't go wrong. Can you?

Has anyone had any recent experience with these winches?
I know there are a lot of stories about them being crap but if they are really that bad, how does a company sell millions of dollars worth of them? Also the quality of product out of China is improving very quickly. Working for a company who is facing direct competition out of China I can assure you of that. We have sent several "spy" parties to China to see how they do it.
Still, there is doubt in my mind too. Hence I figured hydraulic winches would be the way to go. They need to be waterproof for starters (otherwise the fluid would leak out :D ) and require a reasonable degree of close tolerances to work. Chances are companies like Runva don't make their own hydraulic motors but buy them of a specialist in the field. The rest of the winch is then merely a simple mechanical component with which nothing much is able to go wrong.
Most (if not all) of the horror stories I have heard about chinese winches relate to the electric parts, solenoids, armatures and not being waterproof. All these issues are non-existent on a hydraulic winch.
And then a chinese hydraulic winch will cost only around half what a "decent" American winch costs if you add GST, import duty, and freight to the original purchase price of NZ $520.00.
If it works you then have a winch which can run all day without overheating, draining batteries and slow speed. All seems very tempting to me.
But I have this nagging doubt :?
Dammit. :(

I have had a Runva 9500lb winch on the front of my cruiser for a while now. It's ok, that is, it has not let me down. On the other hand, it will not free spool, it is slow and noisy, and it kills batteries like they are going out of style. I have buried it under mud and in deep water (over the bonet) and it keeps going. Must look inside it sometime soon... : )

Sorry guys but ive removed the advertising from within this thread. I cant allow direct advertising in the forums as its not fair on the advertisers that pay to advertise with us and when it happens I would encourage you please not to ask for price listings etc. Once one business does it everyone will do it, then the site will shut down as it wont have any advertisers left  I will always take the hard line on this.

As you were

Stop being such a spoil sport mike. You are first in to remove any "advertising", but you're nowhere to be found when a guest is advertising gay porn? Image
