I have recently bought an old Pajero , 1987, but it has only 145,000 k on it and is a real tight wagon. I'm the third owner and I bought it of a mate who has had it for years.
It is Tectyl treated, has a Ramsey winch, dual batteries, Koni shocks and heavy-duty sway bars and drives nice. It has road tyres, and I have no intention of changing them but will get some chains.

I have joined here to increase my knowledge of off-road operation but have no intention of really hitting the deep mud. The wagon primarily carts my building gear about , but as I work and live in a rural area, it would be good to get some basic instruction on off-road and recovery techniques.

I have also owned two Niva's previously and think they are a great little wagons , if a bit under-powered. Did a lot of hunting in both......Also heard all the Lada jokes too....but really, I have never been that interested in sheep....true.
And BTW I know what Pajero means in Spanish , so I guess that is something else to look forward to.

So If anyone is running an off-road instruction course around Wellsford/Mangawhai area , I would be keen on getting some pointers.

I have read the shooting section here and might have something useful to contribute there, but think discretion should be maintained in regard to security issues. Any crook worth his salt can do a rego search and know exactly what he is going to get , and where. But we can't let that sort of crap dictate our lives.

I will be asking some questions about winching and steep hill operation soon and look forward to gaining some knowledge.

My god, you sound like my mate Roger just up the street. he had a Lada Niva and now owns a PAjero, he's a builder too and carts all his gear around in it. It's bloody filthy inside though. he was a demon in the Niva though, always first in and last out, usually being towed out.

Here's a couple of pics of the wagon. I have just been shelving it out in the back for my gear , and set it up today with spare power sockets for flouro lighting ( Supercheap 2-tube, excellent! ) , a fire extinguisher, and ran-out and re-spooled the winch cable and checked it at the same time.

John, I too have had to get my Niva towed after the cluch went tits up, but generally if it could get in , it would get out again. I had to get inventive with the shovel from time to time though.

By the way guys, you can relax now. Mankinds search for the worlds most useless de-greaser is over. I have discovered it .... Koala Kare from Supercheap. The stuff is so eco-weeny-greeny it's even kind to grease!

Tried to clean the donk today which really is not that dirty, but it did remove the sandflies stuck to the bonnet. :)

Cheers, Dave.
