Ideas for Boxing Day to New Years "Safari"
Ideas for Boxing Day to New Years "Safari"
From last topic. Ideas for trip, maybe similar to last time(Jan central otago). Haven't really thought much but am willing to get something together if people have some ideas. Serpintine could be on the cards, especially the day I didn't do the Nthest end with you guys. Maybe Mavora lakes, Lammerlaw and ranges closer to the eastcoast?dunedin side. Could even do Westcoast if people can put up with the sandflies.

rain, hail, sleet or snow, we go!
Now based on your thoughts there Bill, I was thinking of doing Dunrobin Rd, have a play in behind Macreas Flat, head over Dunstan Rd and do Serpintine. Head up Old Man again, but THIS TIME DO Whitcomb to Piano Flat, then Mavora lakes. That should take us a week and we can camp along the way. Give Alistair a heads up and see what he thinks. Can we get up and over the Rock and Pillar Range?

Righto guys, I have a plan. All head off on the 28 dec hooking up in Omarau to head over Dunrobin Rd. This will incur a charge for access, will find out in near future how much. This will bring us out to the Macreas Flat area where we can play for a day, plenty of areas here. Then head over to Serpentine coming at at the base of Old Man Range. We acn stay in Ettrick so Tim can feel can get over his "homesicknesses"
of the place. Plan on going over this down to Piano flat via Whitcomb Rd. This is a must do even if we have to lower ourselves on winches. Then head up to Mavora Lakes. I will try and gain access to the back of Lake Wakatipu. This would be the highlight of the trip I think. I am going to limit this to 10 well set up trucks, those of you that know, this could be a difficult trip down Whitcomb Rd. Mike get that Landy happening as the Surf may get a few dents. What do you's all reckon????

Out to Walter Peak Station, told some amazing views and photo oportunities. We could spend a couple of days in there exploring if people are keen. This would definitely be roughing it and we would need ample supplies of piss and fuel. I have heard that there is an easy track and a hard one to do. I say we do both. As we all know Whitcomb rd is female as it can change its mind on how difficult it can be each day. But we are definitely going to do it. Bill, is Alistair in?

Bill: that's Alistair two posts back, titled cromcruiser, maybe it should read crushedcruiser
Just make a few enquiries about access for me will you.
Alistair,: your a shit stirrer.
What do you think about exploring all in behind Mavora lakes, Walter peak station etc??? This idea is growing on me. What sort of logistics are we looking at for fuel etc? Could we get some barged in to the Station? As for 350mm clearences, youd need a step ladder. Bring it all on, new cluthch now, nothing holding me back.
DJ: what sort of vehicle do you drive and set up please. we are all pretty safety orientated as we are members of different clubs. We like all trucks that come with us to be set up safelyIE: rated tow hooks, decent tyres AT minium, tow ropes, snorkel would be handy but there are ways around that, a team spirit as we will all get stuck, and a good sense of humour as we all hang shit on each others trucks. Still in???

Ok so you ideally want to drive into Walter Peak station, stay overnight? and drive back? . Where do you want to drive from? Glenhorchy is 8-10 hours round trip.

Hi all first mike get springs 50mm longer lift the front then go and get 33'' mongrel tyres you will love them
this year i went to and as part of a trip i did not have a part in runing the trip it took 7 hours to get in .
the bigest problem is getting the ok from the three stations . Bill would be the best one as he knows the people at ? it cost per truck .We spent the night at , thay have got a large motel type rooms
Bill its in your hands this part
if Bill can get the ok i know the way in .
Mavora lakes is good for two or three days good 4x4ing as for going around the top of lake wakatipu getting the ok from the stations is hard as the is working on this one at the moment
Logistics can be worked out in the next few months
Cheers from cromcruiser or cromsurf
