Holden 3.8 V6 into a Hilux

Post by spankmeister »

Hi all,

Am about to have a 3.8 Holden V6 dropped into my Hilux. Had enough of the gutless diesel, and have just cracked the exhaust manifold, so thought, bugger it, time for the engine change. Will keep you posted with info and pics as time allows.

Thanks wopass. Was toying with the Lexus V8, but have been told they lack torque at low revs, and can be expensive to get certain parts for. Though thats probably true of any engine I guess. The 3.8 V6 was about the same price, and I thought while the V8 would sound great, I am more familiar with the V6, parts are cheap as, and I can always supercharge it later if I want to.

one thing with the commy you may want to make the sump bigger or modify the oil pickup they can go dry on extreme angles.

It is a good solid choice, seen a couple and seriously concidered doing one in mine.

are you using the holden auto?

Also take photo's

Hi Steve, thanks for the advice. I am going to use the Hilux 5 speed box, not the auto.

which 5 speed? G52 or W56? just a thought as the W56 is apparantly stronger than the G52..........may aswell make sure you have the best 5 speed you can for it........you'll need an adapter either way and both boxes bolt up to the geardrive transfer.

I know you may already know all of this........just thought I'd chuck it in just incase

good luck with the build..............PICS PICS PICS :D :D :D

I'm gonna use the G52 for the time being, until I can source a stronger box, though I've been told the G52 is fine, so long as you don't cane it 100% of the time. Pics as I get them :P :P

Conversion all done. I am definitely one happy camper. I never thought the performance increase would be as great as it is. If anyone is considering doing it, I can highly recommend the Holden V6. Will take some photo's tomorrow in the daylight and post up.

i know this is going back a long long time but do you happen to remember if this is a front or rear sumped engine? if front did you encounter any oil pressure problems going up steep inclines when 4x4n
