Disco tyre size
I run a 1996 300tdi disco with a scorpion 2" lift and wanted to know what is the biggest tyre size I can fit. I currantly have 31x10.5x15 and would like to try 33, but will they fit in the rear wheel arches??
I think you need a 2" lift, quite a bit of cutting and you may need rims that have a different offset.
Give Jules at Two Offroad a call, he has done lots of Discos. He also sells the flares.

With the Camel Trophy cut done to the rear wheel arch and the front valance trimmed off both 235/85 R 16 and 265/75 R 16 will fit without a spring lift. Know this for a fact as I run the 235's and my mate runs the 265's. I guess it will also depend on the wheels (and offset of those) you are running. Mine are the standard steel 7" wheels and my buddy runs the 7" wide alloys.
My plan is to fit the 35 x 10.5 Centipedes sitting in the garage.
I have talked to Jules at Twooffroad about this. He reckons is will take a 2" spring lift, 2" body lift, correction bushes, wedge plates, offset rims and a set of his flares to cover the tyres on the offset rims to do it properly. All up about $2500.00 worth not including the rims and tyres.
Have you fitted those fibreglass flares of his Lowbox? There are two different types right? Just a bit worried about shelling out good cash for fibreglass flares which might get destroyed the first time I hit a bank or a tree. How do you find them, are they sturdy?

Putting 35" Centipedes on a Disco is too much for the standard CV's axles and diffs. Four options:
1. Prove this yourself javascript:emoticon(':P')
2. Get a set of maxidrive axles lockers and CV's
3. Stick Nissan axles underneath (I think Turoa is doing this, or look on outerlimits board, common mod in aussie, and can be cheaper than 2)
4. stick to some smaller tyres.
I went for option 1, then option 2. javascript:emoticon(':oops:')
The flares from Jules are really just fibreglass and if you gave them a good whack they would break - same with the fibreglass snorkels. Having said that I have seen lots of people run them for years without problems but it depends how much contact you make when you're driving.
On the wifes disco I put the standard flares (not the XLs) and it still looks pretty stock and tidy which was the aim as it's a school bus that needs to do easy safaris and camping trips - not a bush pig
There are some poms making bendy rubber flares, but if you are making a bush pig disco then just use bendy rubber like bushranger flares or lawn edging it's much cheaper and you'll end up making a trayback anyway...

I have already addressed this issue after proving this to myself far too many times.



The only other issue now is gearing, 3.54:1 is really a bit too tall for 35".
Fixing this doesn't really leave many options if I want to keep the truck 100% Land Rover.
There are some 4.1 and 4.3 Dana 60 diff gears on TM at the moment, that would take care of the rear. But what about the front? Only common LR gears where 3.54 and 4.7. Considering putting Toymota 80 or 100 LandCruiser high pinion diff centre (4.1 gears) into the Land Rover housing but that goes against my religion of 100% LR. 4.1 gears out of the UK to fit the LR diff are horrendously expensive with the freight added.
Will need to give all this some more thought.

I used the Ashcroft 4.11's from the UK. They are great and it compensates almost perfectly for the bigger tyres. KAM in the UK also do a range of ratios but none of them are cheap. You can get around the freight if you find someone who is a regular importer and chuck your order in with them - or there is always some kiwi coming back from the UK...
To lower the ratios you can swap the transfer case and change the high ratio gearing but to change the low ratio you either need to do the ring and pinions or maxidrive do a 30% or 49% lower ratio bigger cog set for the LT230 that just drops the low range.
but then you still have standard axles and CV's...

I have a 91 3.9 5 speed manual Rangie with 4" spring lift on the front 5" spring lift on the rear custom made rear trailing arms with a custom made rear A arm adjustable extension, scorpion racing front radius arms 3" body lift runnin 35X12.5X15 MTR's.

I got rid of the viscus transfer case and put a manual locking transfer case in from a 95 disco.
It has its standard 24 spline diffs and I havent broke anything yet (touhes wood)
Ratio's is a problem at the moment so looking at replacing transfer gears and/or putting 4.7 diffs in
I have a 2 door Rangie as well that use to have the 35's i got a set of those fibreglass flares from jules and the rear ones lasted but front didnt so now have 110 plastic flares on the front aint gonna pay 500 for another set

Lowbox it is me that has nissan axles in my disco. Turoa and I put them under it. Its the best thing you can do to a landy I reckon
My guards were cut when i got it but it is very untidy so im goin to re-cut them soon to tidy them up and make them fit my 35's with less/none

Im just going to add bunnings garden edging for flares which will hopefully cover my fat ass wheels that stick out so far because of the nissan track width
becuase it's cheap as and as everybody knows you always rip your flares off when your offroad so its cheap and easy to repair
