Get another one. Saves mucking about and gives you the chance to upgrade.
Replaced the one in my Disco with one out of an Audi, mucho more oommphh for little dollar at Pick a part (do you have one of those down there?)

There is no mechanical problem so difficult that it cannot be solved by brute strength and ignorance.
Fairly easy to adapt something. Usually just a case of adding or removing some washers between the alternator and mounting bracket to get the pulleys into alignment. Then you have to make sure that you are not buying a v-belt driven alternator if yours is driven by a serpentine belt. But even then you might be able to swap the pulleys anyway.
I had to swap pulleys and do a bit of wiring alterations inside the alternator as in a Discovery the tachometer is driven electronically of the alternator.
