There is no mechanical problem so difficult that it cannot be solved by brute strength and ignorance.
ive always found it depends on the money , how much you got and willing to part with ...
also what you want them to do ..
ive got a $30 pair of 30w floods from supercheap mounted on the back corners for reversing and setting up camp ..
and a $200 pair of 100w narva driving lamps in the front grill to greatly improve night time driving visibility on and off road ..
buy what you can afford and remember that they are breakable and placement is important ..
if money is no object get a set of HID lights and make us all jealous ($800+)...

I've got 3 old 100W Hellas on the bullbar, great for night driving, not sure what the WOF man will say, might have to take em off for that. Also got 4x supercheap 55W mini things on the lightbar/snork, they shine on the windscreen a bit so I'm going to have to put a shade under them, they're mainly for close up spread.
I think cheap is the key, lights are always going to be in the firing line offroad.
Cheers

If it breaks, build it stronger.
If it doesn't break, drive it harder.

I like the look of the rack.
How have you run the cable to the lights on the rack ???
Through the door or through a gland fitted to a hole in the roof ??
Do you have them switched in pairs or do they all come on together??

Mine are Hellas, were fitted when I got the truck.
Bright as and really happy with them.
Are well protected and have suffered no damage yet and I'm not particularly careful with the front end - not particularly rough either.
what you can't really see in the picture is that there is a mesh in front of the spotties which offers them protection from most things. I'm surprised it not more visible in the photo as its quite a solid mesh.
this would protect every thing good tho!

i do heaps of hunting/4wd at night and wouldnt mind getting some more lights. i might wait till i have some bars work done on front tho.
spanky, i was thinking of that the other night, putting them on the hood, then i saw your pic. how do you like them there, they would be out of the way of trees and shit i would've thought?
how do you find the light it gives off, any good? or does it distract your eye with lighting up the hood?
thanks

I ran the cable under the main roof rack in the rear doors across the inside of the roof lining to a roof top console from Outback Accessiores to a switch mounted on the drivers side of the consel

basics, i have had the lights on ther for quite a while and yeah you never hit them with anything, you dont notice the light on the bonnet , i would rather have them on the roof so i could lite up closer to thr front but they wouldnt last 5 mins up the bush, but the light is still good i can drive home on the gravel at night good as gold with them ,.
cause the head lights dont do nothing. vaughan
i just brought some cibie oscars. ones on the bull bar are dual beams and the ones on the roll bar are just spotties.
spotties have 100w bulbs and the ones on the bullbar have 100/70w bulbs. i also have a rearward facing reverse/ worklight on the roll bar and havent ripped them off yet. just got to think a wee bit more when driving around trees etc

With the duel beam lights do both run at the same time or do you choose one or other ??

on the bull bar lights, i can choose between lo beam or high beam. low beam good for visability and high beam good when 4wding at night.
they are pointing quite low and light up the imediate area in front of the truck.
the lights on the roll bar are a single beam and chuck out a long beam and are excellent on country roads. when the whole lots going with the headlights there are hardly any dull patches at night.
got them all off tradme. with the wiring i brought all up the whole lot would have cost around the $100 mark. i dont think its to bad concidering the massive difference its made!
and if your concerned about lights on your roll bar etc, you can always get a bit of tube bent to go over the top of them. i will end up doing this soon.

lots of good ideas.
I'm thinking of Dual beam spots on the bull bar, (there was lights there befor I brought it)
and 4 spots on a custom roof rack.
and will set them up so they are switched in pairs.

Only Just found the thread, this is MY set up
I HAD 2 big spots on the front bar as well, but I smashed one, will be getting replaced soon.
I have my lights set a little different at the moment too. The Ones on the outside now face rearward. They have 55w bulbs. The next set in have 100's and are nice forard driving beams. Center one is a wide spread, good for river work etc.
When I got the bar, there were 5 x 130 watt bulbs, FAR too over the top. Just didnt need that for 4x4 work and I dont think the alternator would have liked that either.
