4WD-UPGRADE(S) RIPOFFS?

Post by petefj40 »

I hate to be negitive on this site coz I get so much good stuff off it. But if someone was to get a upgrade done, like spend a hell of a lot of money on their 4WD only to find they didn't do the job to a good standard ( I mean the sparky had to finish the job the mechanic didn't do properly ) is there anywhere us guys can warn others?
I really enjoy reading posts around this place. Sorry to be negitive.

Judgeing by the Subject name , I hope this topic is not directed at anyone in particuler, and dos not lead to an all out slanging forum.

I don't want a, "all out slanging forum". I would like to warn others of what I've been through. I paid over $16,000 for a substandard job. And had to pay more to get it fixed. I have the receipts to prove it.
Maybe I've said enough.

I certainly hope you gave the mechanic the opportunity to rectify any mistakes he may have made before you came on a public forum and degraded him this way :?: :?: :?:

And as far as the Subject name goes? I have not named any company what so ever. The subject name is what it is. What I had done was "a four wheel drive upgrade or grades". Please take what you will from it. :D

I sure did. But I'm not going to quote his reaction. That wouldn't be fair, in a public forum.
I'll stress again. The subject name is what it is.

You might want to add your thoughts to another related thread "4WD Shops in Christchurch" to this one.

2002 LS1 motor (done 32,000km out of a SS ute) and loom ($6000), hand made extractors (which I upgraded from 2.5 to 3inch from where they went into one), 3 inch airbox/filter (which I upgraded to 4 inch) Front disc brakes, older style power steering box and brace (which I'm still having issues with) but "Doug Smith Power Steering Systems" are fixing for me tomorrow. That's about it i think. I've also had the stock radiator replaced with a bigger alloy one. I had heating issues the way it was setup. So yeah. I still haven't mentioned the things that really went wrong with it. I'm happy to say that after spending more dosh at a sparky it seems to be sorted now. "Kevin Geary Performance" has been dyno tunning it. He still has some work to do. He's worked on my HSV VX Clubsport. For your Holden and Ford enhancements he's your man! He's been awsome!! (a wee plug for Kev)

I'm using the stock LS1 pump and I think it's a 70 series box. It's an older style box anyway.

It's attached to the chassis rail. They made a special bracket for it. Wish I could tell you what model it is. But before then I had it recond (at my own expence) as the seals had gone but when installed the the high pressure pipe thread stripped the boxes thread. It leaked like a siv. I had problems getting the steering box fixed/recond through 4WDupgrades so I got my own help. I'm not dealing with them anymore.

But on that note, I will be giving Corey as much work as he can handel. Just wished he went out on his own. He'll go far. His work rates high in my book!
That's my 5c worth.

      You know your stuff!
I recon the funkiest track off that album is, "matter of pride". Love it, still!!
The best slowest ones are, "I don't wanna wait anymore" and "Amnesia".
But my favourite has to be, "Power tools".
      It rocks.

I'm stoked someone else has had issues with 4wd upgrades.
I've spent the last three years fixing the problems with my 80 series which was worked on extensively by this company.

Don't let them build adjustable panhard rods. Both the front and rear have failed.

      My 5 cents worth. Inflation!!!!!!

It seems there's more than just one ("someone").
The only person I feel sorry for at the company is Corey. I mean though he's only contracted there and has to jump as high as he's told. He's not a partner like some people might think.
      He's damn good fabricator!!

Why doesn't he jump ship, or leave and start up on his own. He seems to have a fairly good reputation, and I'm sure he would do well if he has that good a repoire.

I don't feel sorry for anyone at that company. If you haven't got the brains to disconnect yourself from a place that has a piss poor reputation, than thats your own fault.

I feel sorry for me and my rancho shocks that keep breaking off because they were to short and the shock bushes that fail every warrant because of the crap resizing of the shock mounts.

I could go on and on and on.
