Speedo
depends where you want to undo it, easiest would be to unscrew it and pull it out from the transmission, It's the cable at the back on the passenger side. Only problem is you'll get crap in the hole.... other option would be to pull it out the back of the speedo, but that means taking the dash apart...

dont know if cruiser is the same as hilux but with hilux you can undo the cable and actually pull the insert gently out and do up external nut thus stopping any crap getting into the gearbox. And yes it does go back in and work when need be.Used to do this all the time as i used truck on farm and road so would disconect when driving round the farm a lot

temp refit dash, test drive, needle will still work but ks dont click over
now this is not legal so dont do it

THAT loophole works for petrol vehicles, the odometer is not important... but distance travelled is VERY important in a diesel since its tied up with how our man Helen gets her new presidential limo...

you have just found the other loop hole there is nothing to seperate diesel (non COF required vehicals) from petrol in reguard to speedo having to record distance traveled. Ask your local MTA branch but dont ask a testing station as they are revue collectors even thu they are owned by MTA. And Helen is too busy head down in the back seat. I knew a girl that was into that .... but Helen ohhh no thanks.

If the distance recorder does not work (for whatever reason) how would you track the oil changes, filter changes and most importantly cam belt changes ?
Not sure I would trust the GPS to keep track of 10,000 or 100,000 ks at a time ?
Interested in the answer as i would not be troubled if I could add the trip meter to the list of broken bits on the old girl

An hour meter in the engine bay, roughly every 100 hrs for a service for light diesels based on my calculations if you drove the whole 5000k's at around 90 - 100k's.
Problem is i can't find an hour meter any where. May have to try a heavy industrial store like maybe a tractor/farm/ATV shop.

There is another 4WD forum widely used, full of twats which is why I no longer belong (and now I've made such a bold public statement I'm not telling you which one it is
) where a certain 'vocal' chch 4WDer made some remarks he probably wishes he hadn't about a certain automotive business who, through another twat on the board, found out about it and dragged him through the courts. Not quite the same, but it shows how things can get rather stupid if you're not careful.
