If fitting yourself, I'd throw it in and you can reach your own verdict

Really? I have lockers in mine front and back I just need to hook up to the compressor then I'll find out. 8)
My brother is thinking of flagging that and putting a limited slip diff in the front instead. It would be way cheaper i guess.

I've had a LSD in the front of my LWB Patrol for over a year now.

Upside: The extra traction, especially climbing, is great. I've been doing a lot of rutted clay climbs with steps and roots in them - with the LSD I can just floor it and not worry (much!) about breaking CV joints (running std-ish 4.2 petrol on LPG) - the front end can bounce right up and hit the ground both wheels spinning, and just grabs and pulls.

Downside: If you drop the pressures right down (6psi or so) you get stuff all steering - but then, it was pretty much like that before. The scarey stuff is on really mushy sidlings - It'll go straight ahead and that's it, pretty much. The first time it happened I thought i'd broken another tie-rod - it felt exactly the same. It's copable-with, if you're watching out for it, but far from perfect.

If you've got one, I'd say try it - way cheaper than a locker, and better than an open diff. I'd love to be able to switch it off, though - just don't have the funds for a locker.

Interesting. Sounds like a good option for the money. I'll pass that info on. Cheers!

what is the lsd out of? i have heard there is a different number of splines on the axles from front to rear? Is this correct? Have heard terrano rear diffs have the same number of splines on the axle as the front of the safari? Can anyone confirm this? cheers

had the lsd fitted on the thursday at 4wd acc (rick),got to take it out today on club fun day, well pleased how it went, was guys there with difflocks front and rear and the old saf just followed them around with no problems at all, there was another guy there with his saf and he had just fitted a lsd in the front aswell and he was chuffed how it went

diff is out of a terrano rear lsd, just change over crown wheel and pinion and carrier from ur open diff onto the rear terrano lsd and put in the front
of your safari
