Marshals needed 13 Oct National Trials Welly 13 Oct 2007
Round 1 of the National Trial Competition 2007/2008 season begins on the 13th of October 2007, what the heck is national trials you ask...well its the 4x4 extreme stuff you see on TV etc.
Anyway an event like this will need 100+ marshalls easy, so book out that weekend now, if you haven't experienced an event like this then you can expect to be stuck on a hazard for a morning or the whole day, yor hazard may be open thru the lunch stop. expect it to be wet, rainy and muddy, as competitors go thru the hazard you will be scoring them and stuff, crowd control. as marshalls you control the hazard and you are in control, if a competitor tries to have words with you then you can fine him 200 points on the spot. typically you need to bring lots of water, drink and snacks, lunch may be provided however its good to bring extra. you will get rolls and stuff on most hazards, if theres a problem like a fire or something then you are expected to deal with it, if you have a PRS radio then this is useful.
Most of the competitors are really good and appreciative of your efforts, a few may be grumpy due to breakages or whatever, I have only struck the odd prick but thats easily dealt with.
I'll find out more details, Valley 4wd club are running it this year under the Deadwood name with permission.
I have been involved in the last 3 and its been a great amount of fun, last years was held at Aotea and there was rain and gumboot deep mud.
Jobs include Hazard marshalls, parking marshalls, pit marshalls, other jobs may be required.
Anyway if you are keen post up and I'll assemble a list to pass on and stuff and provide more detail, there may be working bees to help as well.
Will post up more info as I hear it.
I will offer my usual marshall organising services this year if they want it and stuff.
perhaps competitors and previous marshalls can put up their experiences for those who haven't done this yet.

good stuff Jerry. you the man when it comes to organising marshalls, so I hope they ask for your assistance.
Unfortunately I will be one of the grumpy pricks in a truck, so I can't offer my services.
Although if you find that you're short of people to show the marshals how to do it, then I would be more than happy to instruct at our first hazard before I have to move on.

The orange suit should be a giveaway
I might have to wear my birthday suit then. that will scare anyone away.
My driver may be pissed if you start handing out 200 points every time you see me.

Thats the problem with marshall's they always want to argue with the driver. We have now proved that they cant see... I quite clearly asked for MAX 20.The driver knows where he drove, he knows that he got the wheel past, and still these voluteeers want to argue with them :globwhore:

Id be keen, an for every burbon you give me, you get a free zero, hell you don't even need to drive it, just give me a burbon and you will get a nice zero score.
Of course that may mean that I'm marshaling the carpark but hey, you get a perfect zero for parking your car
