ok.
there is a switch on the dash of my 89 bighorn, and i want to know what its for. it has a picture of a motor, with wat looks like a coil in it.
any ideas......
i few japanes trucks hae those on them
it helps to warm the engine up to operating temperature faster in trucks all the usually do is close the exhaust brake
my 4wd is not a truck
old mercedes never die but sometimes they do need some love
older cars are good, mercedes are better, older mercedes are the best
na not joking, well his bighorn was badged as a chev, two of our trucks have a sump warmers and one you can plug into the mains at nite to keep engine warm think its the Hino,
huh.. there you go, it restricts the exhaust and changes the timing
to help on cold starts.huh.. there you go, it restricts the exhaust and changes the timing to help on cold starts.
Exactly
The switch through a controller that has its own temperature sensor on the front of the block operates 2 vacuum valves mounted behind the fuel filter
1 of these operates the timing on the injector pump the second drives a cable control unit mounted above the starter motor. the able from this closes a butterfly valve in the exhaust.
This is designed to heat the motor quicker and reduce exhaust emissions
As the motor warms up it goes back to normal
I am working on setting mine up as an exhaust brake ... not sure yet.
I'm going to try a temporary push button to see how good it is before I try and set up the switch's on the clutch and accelerator.
There is no mechanical problem so difficult that it cannot be solved by brute strength and ignorance.
