winch 4 hilux
winch 4 hilux
i am going to mount a warn 9000 winch on my hilux but not sure to mount on front or up under flat deck, its a 95 doublecab and would be a lot easier to mount under the rear altho not sure on disadvantages (any ideas would be nice) also if mounted on front whats the best and tidiest way to do it, i am a panelbeater so chopping and fabricating not to much problem
I have a reciever on the front of my Cruiser that I fit the winch into, that way the winch is carried in the back, you don't have the winch in the water and mud all the time and no extra weight sticking out the front.
Just slide it in Plug in the cables and all ready to go, remove when finished and stow in back. you can also fit a reciever to the rear, run extra cables to the back and the winch can be used front and back.
H2olva ( Jason ) has the same set up and somewhere on here he has photos that someone may find for you.
Another plus of this method is people don't know you have a winch so you don't get called on to do all the winching.
FULL OF GOOD IDEAS,
FITZY.

I'd consider mid-mounting it under the deck, behind the cab. That way you can run the cable to the rear, through a pulley then run it to the front through a tube /pulley. That way you get to use the winch from both ends(albeit a double line pull at the rear). You should be able to protect it from a fair amount of mud etc under there too, by using a skid plate.
Smokeys set up with a removable hitch is a good idea too. That way you can set up a mates truck the same way and move the winch from truck to truck as needed.

Just mount a roller on the chassie crossmember( the one with the driveshaft hanger bearing on it)and make a little roller fairlead on the bull bar, dont run the rope through a pipe.Have no hook on the rope just a spliced eye that way if you want to pull back wards you just pull the rope out of the fair leader /roller and run the rope straight out the back! through another fair leader if you like

i have haman reese style reciver hitches front and back on my ln130 surf, it works great and saves those embarising moments where you have a front mount winch and can only recover the 4wd backwards. saved me a few times. rick at 4wd acc in chch did the job for me and it is very strong. being able to pull out my hilux and a swb safari attached on the back with a strop out of the waimak using a 4 peg and flat bar ground anchor. pics in my album of winch mounting and other missions. search user albums under- Hilux-Happy-Steve[/img]

That looks great ...
What have you done with your front No.plate ??

There is no mechanical problem so difficult that it cannot be solved by brute strength and ignorance.
