Power steering cooler

Has anyone installed one before?

I have a 4 cyl trans cooler I am going to use on my 1UZ.

I assume you just plumb it into the low pressure return line?

Does the steering fluid get that hot that it needs one? :shock:

When doing low speed work that requires a lot of steering movement and with the motor hot I have had the fluid boil a couple of times.

With the 1UZ in the Hilux there isn't much airflow around the motor. The pump is right against the motor so will get a lot of heat soak.

it will just be the same as a normal oil cooler right ?

plumbing a trans cooler in as well, when we are going hard it boils over and onto the motor, not a good look, going to fit a decent trans cooler

some get hot and some don't.

I was in the bush in my 350 powered cruiser with 2 other 350 powered cruisers, and when we stopped for lunch, one of the guys was feeling the power steer boxes to see how hot they were. Mine was pretty cool but the other 2 were getting pretty hot. None of us ran a cooler.
I would say that if yours is getting that hot then it might be a good idea to cool it.
As I haven't done mine I'm not sure how to plumb one. Sorry. :roll:

70# cruisers dont have a cooler as such but they run the return line accross the front cross member and back presumably to try and give it a bit of cooling :?:

I have a decent quality 6cyl transmission cooler which I will plumb in.

Need to have a look at where I can mount it as space is limited.
