Before you start looking around for a new engine, wip the head off cause thats whats gotta happen anyway and do a crack test (can of spray paint shit) check pistons etc. might be just blown gasket and thats all and bit of your time to fix it. You can cash in some of those hours you were round here adam helping me fix my car if you want  Warning though only ever done a few mini head gaskets and ship engines/generators where pistons are the size of 40 gallon drums so how hard can a mistu v6 be??

well  if your going to pull the head off with no prior knowledge of the mitzi V6 i would say get a manual and read it first. they are a pain in the arse. also check which head has gone and if your reeeeeeeealy lucky....its the front(right side if its north/south config) bank as thats the easy one to work on.once you get all the crap removed and away from the top its not tooo bad a job....definatly check which bank has blown first then pull it off for inspection,be carefull when popping the head off so as not to damage the gasket too much as this will tell you a great deal about what has gone wrong, also check between the balve seats as they are prone to cracks there if it got hot.... the list goes on and on.... keep us posted.

to check which bank has blown, fill the water system and leave it sitting for a while or if you have a cooling system pressure tester use that, remove all spark plugs and have a look which cylinder/s is full of water. the spark plugs will/should also tell you this information.

they are much harder to work on when they are squeeeeeeezed into a VR4 with twin turbo's  piece of crap bloody things.... go really well for what they are tho

For the Prado a replacement head was $1200, $250 for someone to change the valves and stuff and then another $500 worth of gaskets and labour to finish it.

Cheaper than a replacement engine.

Seriously look around for a new Donky!!!

I would:
Figure out what cars your engine is common to,

Ring wreckers Nrth and Sth and ask if they have any wrecking as well as engine modle you are looking for,

Ring the engine importers in Tauranga, and any others you can find on the net in the yellow and white pages sites. These guys usually offer a warrantee or garantee on the their imported motors.

I'm sure you can get a whole nother motor for that much and mike looks like he has the crane and gear suitable to do the swap!!.

I reckon you'd pick up a motor for $1500ish, they are very common!!!!

No warranty on it??

yeh its recond, they did a compression test before yes and it failed that to it smoked as soon as you started it up in the mornings yes.. they said from looking at it the it has been leaking for a while and they found oil on the driveshaft below. Also the condition of the radiator pipes shows that it has never had an antifrezze before i bought it.. a DAy before it happened i could hear a knocking sounds yes and it felt strange changing gear was too shore what it was .. ask my old man to come with me to fill it up and have a listen but like everything never went to fill it up till the morning on my way to work.. as for the piston when they took the cylinder heads off to be tested .. they found that the pistons needed re alineing with the cylinders. and yes they are doing both sides of the V6 and both head gaskets..

Wopass what do you mean am i using my truck to do it ??
