it might be easier to find a prebuilt one? are you going to still make the hard top fit?

Photos are always good :)
I have not seen any prebuilt ones around and i do want it to fit with the hard top on. Can you hire pipe/tube benders?

how much spare cash have you got. :?: :?:

Howat Engineering in Naenae will build you one.

Do you want a body mounted cage or chassis mounted :?: :?:

my body mounted cage took a whole day of bending and welding, only to find that when we welded it out of the truck it moved heaps. So weld it in place.
I also cut the sides of my dash to make it fit better with less bending.
I don't know what mine cost but we used 2 lengths of rollcage tube and took the best part of a day and a wee bit more.

If you want pics then check out mine on Page 38 of user pics. if you need more specific pics then let me know and I'll get some for ya.

No such thing as a pre-made cage.

If you can't do it your self, or know someone with the gear and know how that you and feed beer to, then you gotta drop the vehicle in somewhere and pick it up in a few days with the job all done.

I had no gear, and no idea how to build a good cage but needed one so i could progress the project. Took the easy option

The cage in the LJ took a week to get done, it was built to national trials standard, so main hoop chassis mounted, rear stays chassis mounted and front hoop floor mounted above body mounts. The whole cage is bolt in, with two seperate bolt in cross members that were fabbed up for the main hoop and rear stays.

I got it done on the cheap as the vehicle was in bits, so made the job easier for them, let them use second hand galve tube they had kicking round instead of getting in new stuff (front and main hoop made out of un-galved new tube though) and i did all the finishing off and tidying up work and got them to leave out the diagonal brace on the main hoop untill the next evolution of the truck ;) . Normally they cost about $950??

Get it done correctly, and made to whatever standard you need for the purpose you have in mind.
Plying a mate with beer might save some dollars, but a bit of steam tube held together with what looks like doobs of bird shit won't save your life.

i got all my steel for my cage for $230. Got a mate of a mate to weld it up and only charged 2 boxs of beer. It took a day to bend up and half a day to weld.
