"SAT 11TH" WAIMAK RIVER(STH SIDE)-snorkal and muds

Hi there guys,
well this is it i want to get a whole group of members and freinds to go out and attack the south side of the waimak this comming saturday.
starting under the motorway bridge south side, and head upstream to the mc clains island stopbank enterance by the hump in main road and mabey further but see what everyone thinks that can handle. im going to go up it on wenesday to plot a course upstream. (all welcome on that trip aswell 11am) that is no harder than last saturdays trip

AS FAR AS I KNOW THERE MAY BE SOME HIGHT CLEARANCE, DEEP RUTS, DEEP WATER, AND MUD ISSUES ON THIS TRACK "i can get thru(IF WET OR DRY).

THERE ARE BY-PASSES around most knarly stuff LIKE NORTH SIDE

Dude, if you think you can do the hardcourse up the sth side in an "Invented for shopping" (IFS) surf on 33"s, then I want some of the drugs you are on

You'll do the easy run as good as gold though
Hope the diversion just up from the bridge isn' running to fast for your sake though.

im all good on hard corse done it 3 or 4 times now. no joke. it's tough but with a bit of trial and error i can get thru the hazards. done crossings were warter was over bonet and floating down the main flow and driven out other side. the old girl mite be ifs but she has a good driver.

just to let you know you couldn't handle the drugs im on.

this is the sort of thing i do in it weekly down at the waimak. and i dont have diff lock or lsd's yet...

Dude, you really should know who you are trying to convince before opening your mouth. I have no problem with newbies working up to the good stuff, but don't come here and tell everyone how good you are until you have the skill base to back it up.

well come along saturday cause as far as i know, there was no harder track than the ones i went down between each stopbank grone. if there is something down there harder then i want to try it. sorry if i have offended anyone. just stating what i know. as i said i have only done the track about 4 times. mind you i do have to winch in some hazzards on the harder stuff but still i get thru it. if you know the section of track that goes around the end of the mc clanes island stopbank to keep going upstream, well iv'e done that a few times.

Well mate, I back him up!!! I and a good group of others last Saturday can see Steve has the right stuff. :thumright:
As far as I'm concerned (and I'm sure others) he can open up his mouth as much as he likes!!!

all good will bring the bang-stick along for sure. just going to be a bit of a trial and error trip on wenesday as its been a few months since iv'e been there but emma reckons she knows the way still. should be a bit of fun thou. just got your txt. cheers. they dont worry me at all i know what i have done and am proud , and if someone dosn't think i can then all credit to me for being able to. at the end of the day "its not what youv'e got it's what you do with it that counts" and i have know reson to lie i just do what i can and aleast give it a go and thats what its all about in this game. :chainsaw:

I do however think shooting and 4x4 with a large group is a bad mix, please take caution here. Its all we need for ORE to be bought back into the limelight again. :shock:

But just a couple of points I'd like to make. (for ORE sakes)
1st. I'll only shoot my rifle in a safe area with a small group.
2nd. What we are using is high powered precharged air guns.
No powder used, no gun license needed.

This is the beast I use. A Career Ultra 9mm precharge.
Kill zone 70m. Safe zone 200m (you'll get a big bruise) pellet flys at about 900fps. Sorry if I'm blowing my trumpet here. :oops:

Just because you don't need a license for an air rifle doesn't mean that the same rules don't apply ie, using a fire arm in a public domain (thats any area the general public have access to such as rivers, beaches, parks, reserves etc etc).

I'm sure you fella's are safe, experinced and responsible, perhaps just make a phone call and check that you are ok with them in there, otherwise don't post it on the net for the "watchers" to see, PM or TxT works well????

As I'm looking into getting a firearms license, I have recently been in touch with the Police. While I was there I asked about firing an Air Rifle in a public place.
I'm well aware of the rules and restrictions of firing a Air Rifle and a powder gun in public places. I'm also aware of the safe zone of both types of weapons.
I intend on getting my firearms license and intend on keeping it. :salut:

well this has got heated :lol:

fristly- only two of us, going out on wednesday. as pete said.

secondly- we are both resposable shooters. identifying our targets with under 1000 f.p.s. air rifel and pre charged rifel. we dont go rambo style thru the bush and into an area that people are. we know the ruels and regs.

and thrirdly ifs is not the bees knees but its what iv'e got and untill i have enough cash to put solid beam, this will do me fine. momentum and throttle make up a big part of it.
if you want to start getting like that about it then you arnt very incourrogeing to others mabey wanting to join with ifs, when there is know resone for it.

we go out and have alot of fun but fun is what its all about. we dont try to prove anything, just ourselfs. its about confidence to get more experiance.

one day i would like to go into the trials but that is a pipe dream right now
and anyway whats the differace weather i can or not. hope your not scared of being shown up by a invented for shopping surf :lol:

Just to let you know it is illegal (read ecan guys can and will be patrolling this area) to climb up the side of stopbanks. They want you to stick to the formed roads BUT not the formed roads that go up the side of a stopbank

It is confusing but i have run into the rangers on more than one occasion and have had good discussion with them about it. Its a stupid rule but one of many that can still bite you on the arse.

Thats the problem, you can't get into many of the tracks your talking about without going over the groins so they have you in a real catch 22. They are cool with you following the formed road (which i take to mean any road with shingle on it) but as soon as you try and follow the "track" they are on your arse. Most times you get a lecture about how your wrecking the bank and it will be your fault when Ch Ch gets flooded :roll:

even though it looks like a road and people have been driving there for years, My argument has always been that the river does more damage in one flood than most trucks would do in a year, but if they keep seeing you they have lots of ways to deal with it. None of which would be enjoyable

Just thought you may want to know, that it is illegal to shoot down the Waimak, with ANY firearms. An airgun is classed as a firearm in law also. There are signs at every entrance to the Waimak, Ashley, and other rivers prohibiting the use of firearms. Pisses me off, coz it means I have to go up to Waipara, just to shoot rabbits etc. All I am saying is, don't get caught. :wink:

Hopefully Steve I can make it this weekend. Looks like you guys had fun on the North Bank. Bring on the mud.

Well. Today I went down to Chch Central Police Station and asked the Firearms Officer, "is it illegal to shoot an Airgun at the Waimak River bed, or any river bed for that matter??" His short answer, and I quote was, "NO". But on the flip side of that, it is legal to shoot your air rifle on your own suburban property, but if you annoy others, put others at risk or any danger (the list goes on) you may be prosecuted. He said the safest thing to do if you are that worried is ask your local council.
