FRONT DIFF
FRONT DIFF
well, after breaking the front output shaft a few weeks ago in my FJ40 and repairing it only to have the problem rear its ugly head again on our jaunt over to rotovegas
we had it narrowed to the front driveshaft over angle'ing...or so we thought
.... i have just come in from the garage after removing the front driveshaft to find that the problem is actually IN the front diff itself
and only turning in reverse from the pinion so... watch this space for more of the story to unfold over te next little while...
hopefully i will have my camer repaired/replaced so as to take some pics of the mess in my garage

Croozer diffs are like cruise ship anchors - you could fit 4 or 5 Hilux diffs in a 40 axle and still have room for a party

I didn't think you had semi or full float for a front diff? I thought all front diffs were full float (no clips holding axle's into diff head)
Even if you pick up a rear semi float diff it will still work in the front, maybe. I've got a rear semi float spare diff head. Might have to have a look. Whats the going rate?

ok, yes completely right,it is the same spline as mid 80's hilux as i have the hilux disk conversion and the axels slipped right on in.
rear is semi floater set up
as for the amount of money i will spend to get another one.... as little as possible,im a broke arse with a new baby in the house and a missuz that aint back at work yet
if you have one,pm me and tell me how much you want for it and i will let you know if its in my budget...not that i have a budget but hey,,, what she dont know wont hurt her

ok
total change in plan of attack...
rear diff being put into front, front diff being put into back and welded. cheapest option available to me.
cheers to averybody with contacts and info but im going to have to wait until i can throw money at it before i buy a diff
.... ahh well, having a welded rear aint so bad
bring on the skids

just before you attack the spyder gears with the glueing sticks have you got any lead??
melt it down and pour it in between the gears .. old stock car trick... seams to be easier on the gears less tendance to crack the gear set and reheat the lead and the gears are able to be removed. Lead cushions the impact not as hard on every thing. Just a thought and it works. If you get stuck give me a yell Ill weld the sucker in for ya
cheers DJ

one of my good mates is the welding supervisor/guru of electric bolts at the power station where i work so should be sweet. cheers for the offer tho mate
and with the cruiser rear being a semi floater it really has to be done in place with the keeper pin being damaged as well it will also need to be welded in
.. gonna be fun

good to hear you put a "sicky" to good use
will be interesting to see how your truck goes on the tarmac with a locked rear diff, I had a skyline a few years back and due to a lack of funds when I blew the diff, welded it up and drove it like that for about 2 months( every intersection and wet day was an adventure). will be interesting with the bigger off road tyres.
