hi guys, i have a 85 D/C hilux with a 2.4.... its bone basic but has 31 mud tires and a no hassel interior ( read rubber matts ) which is good for the mud!! Im sussing tow hooks, and after reading some of the horror stories of them flying off what/where is the best place to mount them, i see that a plate behind the chassis to support the bolts is the go, but where??? im keen to meet others and do some casual trips etc i go out to ashurst but thats bout it....

As you mentioned Ashurst. Have you been down there (SH3 bridge end) recently(last month or so)??

The river has changed course quite majorily after the flash flood.

River now flows both sides of the "island". Roading contractors took to much river gravel if you ask me and weakened the river bank.

Result is the best muddy play area is now river. Hopefully come summer it'll dry up and be drivable again.

took the dogs and missus for a drive there on thursday, did most of the tracks thru the middle, and went out last week as well, gotta agree bout the missing stones, that whole big area is now small rivers. but still ok, just means more water to wash the undersides! im keen as to go out with another 4wd'ver so i can try some of the mud bogs (without fear of being stuck out there alone) etc if anyone is keen to go out sometime....
