Sat 11th:
I took some time to scramble under the new Wrangler, havent had much time to give eveything the once over underneath, and im bloody glad i did.
As part of its lift kit theres an extender bracket (sleeved into the existing one) for the steering damper held on by a single bolt. The bolt was loose and had moved to the point the the bracket was hitting the coil spring. Quickly rectified that. And will permanantly recitfy it with a welder sometime soon.
I then paid some attention to the front adjustable panhard rod. The adjuster sleeve in the middle of the two threaded sections of rod was held on by two finger tight bolts!! i could grab a hold of it and the flex was approx 2 cms!!!! ("#### me drunk" i think was the phrase that flew from my lips) Soon fixed that, and oddly enough the steering is a damn sight more responsive too.
I skidded myself down to the back to give the rear adjustable panhard an inspection as well, considering as how the front components were so shithouse i thought it prudent to do so.
Again theres a silly bracket sleeved into the existing mounting bracket, and again held with one bolt, but it appeared ok. However, out of curiousity, I pulled out the tape and measured centre to each wheel.... where theres a 20mm discrepancy.... (any wonder why the arse wants to step out??!) So ill get around to sorting that tomorrow, as soon as i can get my head around which way i gotta turn the adjuster to get it centre, i would have done it there and then but i had a date with my 5y/o and Weber Bros Circus (and a bloody great show too!!!)
Also still have to get my steering wheel back into centre too, its 1/8 out to the right............ and no, whipping the steering wheel off aint an option.
Tomorrow......... well theres another day

You don't have to whip the steering off in a Wrangler. Look at your drag link (that is connected to your tie rod in a Y), there is an adjusting sleeve. You just undo the bolts slightly and turn that sucker, it will pull the steering whichever way you want. This does not impact your alignment in any way. Lie under it from the front and see how the steering system is connected. Other read the manual, it is very simple and clear.

The beauty of driving a 4WD, did my good samaritan bit on the way home this afternoon. I had been down to Queensgate in Lower Hutt this afternoon with my two boys and on the way home along Harcourt Werry Drive I spied a guy with a 2WD flat deck over by the willows loaded up with firewood. He couldn't get up the slight slope with the road tyres, sliding all over the place. So looped back around, hooked up a rope, and out he came - very grateful.
Have a great weekend all
Cheers

Flicking through the FSM now TJ. And here i was gunna crack the pittmann arm off and line it up that way...... what an animal.
Just had a look, without seperating the draglink from the pitman arm (and then turning the sleeve) it must affect toe in or out surely? I'll have an experiment tomorrow.

Nope. Toe in and out is controlled by the tie rod (the rod connecting the two front wheel
Its actually explained in the Steering / Wheel Alignment section of the factory manual.
