'91 Prado LJ71 Handbrake warning light

Post by Highway »

Ok here's my problem. Handbrake warning light has been reluctant to go off the last month or so, but has eventually. Until this week.

Now it stays illuminated all the time. I've read the posible casues are
1./ handbrake switch. Checked with multimeter, seems fine.
2./ brake fluid level and sensor. Level fine.
3./ vacuum switch. WHat is this for and where is it?

Advice and suggestions would be much appreciated.

Cheers.

It is there to to show when you loose vacuum thus the assistance that this gives to your braking ability.

If this is the same as my Isuzu you will find it mounted on the front of the brake booster.

If it is not on the front of the booster I would trace the vacuum line back to the manifold if it is petrol or the vacuum pump (commonly on the back of the alternator ) if it is a diesel.

Hope this helps.
There is no mechanical problem so difficult that it cannot be solved by brute strength and ignorance.
