Terrano suspension and tyre's upgrade

Post by lizard71 »

Hey, just got my first four wheel drive 93' terrano and i would like to upgrade the suspension and tyre's. as for the suspension in the back feel's a bit wobbly, not sure if this is because of worn shocks/spring's?? are there any good affordable aftermarket suspension kits? and also wondering about the alu wheels with road tyre's what are good semi off road tyre's to run on it. cheers :)

Pretty much everything you need to know about upgrading your Terrano can be found here...

check for worn bushes if your back end feels loose...

I threw in a pair of king springs, munroe longer travel heavy duty shocks, re-indexed the torsion bars, and threw some blocks and bolts under the body... Or you can order complete upgrade kits from the states... sounds like you might be catching the upgrades bug already...

if you change your wheels, i'd recommend an offset not too much deeper than stock if you want to run taller than 31" tyres cos my 15x8 deepish dish still rub the 32's at compressed lock.

Lots of pros and cons, good luck and have fun with it!...

i havnt done any suspension upgrades on mine but i have put a set of mud tyres on. I run 31/10.5/15's and dont have any rubbing issues. For a good mud tyre and good wear on the road i would recomend a set of hankook RT03's. Very good value for money. One thing i would reccomend doing is getting rid of the auto hubs and putting manual hubs on. Just my 2c.

Hey thanks for the reply i had a look under the truck and not to sure if those bushes are worn it all seem's tight. could it be worn springs?? and about the tyre's i would like to run somthing a bit smaller than a 31 i got 255 /70- 16 on it but they look like more of a road tyre. would it make sence to go for steel rims ?? cheers

Had a terrano before putting it down for a lie down (rollover). You can a pretty good suspension kit for them from Old man Emu, soft and comfortable with about 50mm lift. That's only the rear of course. the front you will have to wind up the torsion bars. I reindexed and wound mine up but the cost of that was a new steering draglink every six months. To get 33' tyres onit I had to cut the rear and front guards out. With the 33's on I had 350 mm clearance under the front diff and 275 under the rear diff, not bad. The are inherrently weak in the steering for heavy 4wheeling I replaced so many CV's and tierods. They are quite a capable truck so have shit loads of fun. Replace the autohubs for manual ones when you can. If you change between forward and reverse in 4wd trying to get out of a bog they can ruin your front diff.
