lower gearing needed
Just fitted 255/85R16 BFg Mud Terrains to my Rocky (Rugger/Fourtrak outside Holland) which seems to work better than the 33x12.5R15's I had previous fitted (No more rubbing and hitting the wheel arch extensions, don't know what the will do in full lock and full suspension extension/compression... just fitted them tonight...) Now I need lower gearing..... Can I fit an transfercase from a F20 with a 1.6 fuel engine to my 5 spd gearbox??? ( It's a 1992 Rocky/Fourtrak/Rugger with a 2.8 turbo diesel with intercooler[/img]
Howdy, I have been told that the Toyota 2.4/ 2.8 transfer cases are compatible internally if you can get lower geared ones, the problem with the Rocky/Rugger/Fourtrack Is that the diff gearing is too high (compared to a Hulux/cruiser). if you changed the diffs to hilux or even prado ones that would fix the problem.

Thanks for the info but what do you mean with change the diffs??? does it mean swap axles completely.... The diffs styles are different. Toyota has a complete third member you can pull out and the Daihatsu diff is Land Rover Salisbury style...Are the Ring and Pinion interchangeable Toyota <-> Daihatsu interchangeable? I have Bundera LJ70 axles ( the frontaxle is incomplete...just the housing and third member....) can I use them also? It looks like the Toyota rear axle is offset to the passengerside ( In Holland the driver is on the left side) end the Daihatsu rear axle is more centered.... the gearing from the Toy diffs is 4.88 isn't that too low for highway performance?????

Another Dutchie on here eh?
Good nickname too, bet not too many Kiwi's will get the meaning of that one.
Whereabouts are you located?
(Sorry nothing to do with fitting lower gearing)

Waar kom jij vandaan???'
Again thanks for the info, it sounds interesting.... You can't tell me how it's done?? Does someone know??

Owjah m'n naam is Dennis trouwens.
Eh?
I must need new glasses or something

Fom memory you have to swop the diffs over and there is a bit of modification involved.....the problem is if you stay with the daihatsu diffs then you can't get LSD's or difflocks....noone makes them for those anymore....there are plenty of off the shelf Toyota ones
