hi there all,
just looking for some advise, am i better off spending 5, 6, 7k+ on droping a 6 cylinder in a 1985 holden jackaroo OR sticking with the 2.0 liter and droping a turbo in it, ether way im looking for more power

Do what I did and grab yourself a 'yota Surf

It goes great and has all the electric bits to boot

im not just looking for the cheaper way im looking to get the best power out of it.

In that case a transplant sounds like the go.

Being a holden you might get lucky with some commonality in the gearbox department. Try Marks adaptors at http://www.marks4wd.com/ to get an idea of what they can supply in the way of kits. This will give you an idea of what others have done before you - no point in being the pioneer unless you have truly bottomless pockets.

I would think the Holdens are the way to go - lots of aussies [Hilux, Suzuki, etc.] are swapping out their 2.? diesils and small petrols and putting in VT6 commie engines which are plentiful powerful and cheap...

hey there does any one now how hard it is to change gearbox from 4spd
to 5 spd in 2.0lt turbo diesel and does it make much difference
in 85 long wheel base jackeroo

cam across a sight a few years back that listed all the engines that bolted up to the 2.6 petrol gearbox . It was an usa sight and basicly said the bell housing were similar etc and you could get the bell housing off a v6 chev to bolt to the holden/isuzu box . The good bit was that the 4.0 32v v8 ( from a cadalac and the 4.4 v8 also caddie ) bolted to the engine . Hmm .

Anyway with a bit of resurch you may be able to get a bell housing out of the states that could match a comodore v6 to it etc . Never managed to confirm if the comodore v6 had the same bolt batter as the chev v6 etc .

Try a late model Holden V8 5.0Litre motor out aof a commodore.
There was a guy who done a Isuzu Mu (Holden Frontera) who done this conversion, ran in the last NZ Coast to Coast Video. Someone surely must know who this is on this site.
Mu stuff and Jackaroo stuff is the same on most years
Mu ran hard and sounded good
Keeps the rego guys happy to staying with same brand parts (holden
