Air-Con Pump for an Air Compressor

My zuk (SJ413) has a Vitara 1600 engine in it, which has a vacuum idle up factory. Its usually controlled by the ECU, and is turned on when you switch on the lights or fan just to keep the idle constant. I dunno why it even has the vacuum idle up, as is also has an IAC valve, and that does a fine job of keeping the idle constant.
I just disconnected it from the ECU hooked it up to my circuit.

You could probably rig one up if your engine doesn't have one. Should be easy enough to get the vacuum pot and vacuum switch from a wreck and set it up. The pot is just like a little pneumatic ram and pushes on the throttle linkage.

Correct. I got a oil separator from Comp air controls in Palmy, its has a hard clear plastic bowl with a drain bung in the bottom. simply pipe this to the inlet and you have a recirculating oil system :lol:

It looks like that SD7B10 I bought has no sump as such, the S and D holes are on the body, not at the back like the 508 model and there is no breather etc. Just the back of it has about 6 bolts securning it.

So I think I will have to look at using an inline oiler.

Would this not need regular attention as there will be a steady buildup of moisture in the oil?

Don't you get a lot of water in the oil? My compressor generates a surprising amount of moisture when compressing the air. When you take the tyre inflator off the valve stem and give it a squirt, it often blows out a big cloud of water vapour.

I think I'll temporarilly install the water separator between the hose and tyre inflator and see how much it collects doing some tires...

Yer it can do, but hey its all lubes it :lol:

A few guys up here haven't used a separator at all, they just drop a few drops of oil into the compressor inlet each time they use it.

Okies then, I am going to try and get a SD508 compressor, like this.

I will try to on sell the one I have on TM as I would rather not have the extra plumbing issues with the oilers etc.

Does anyone know of one available, or know a friendly wrecker that might not charge an arm and a leg for one? These ones are nice and compact too as space is a real issue here.

You will only find them on NZ new Mitsi's that have had aftermarket a/c fitted. Have seen one or two like this at pick-a-part on 90's Galants and Lancers etc

They are factory fitment on quite a few European cars - eg Peugots and Volvos.

Thanks Ben, I have emailed Pick-A-Part to see if they can locate one for me.
I wish we hade one here in Chch as the yards here will not let you wander about to find what youre looking for.

Was offerd a brand spanking new one today at one of the A/C shops, but at just over $550.00 I had to say "sorry, no thanks" :shock:

You won't get a reply from Pick-a-part. You HAVE to get the parts yourself. The only people there are the lovely island ladies in the booth that take your money and check you pockets to make sure you're not nicking stuff.

There was a pick-a-part style yard in chch a few moons ago when I lived there. Out Linwood way somewhere. Might well be gone now.

Any air-con shop should have bins full of Sandens, so you might be able to get a second hand one for a reasonable price.

I think mine was $28 from pick-a-part.

Ben, just to be a pain in the preverbial, can you be a little more specific on the model/make/year of the cars you have found the SD508's on?
Having a bit of a prob with wreckers here not too willing to look through their yards without more info.

Has anyone else manged to source a '508' off a specific model?

I would chat to the aircon people I think the 508 is being replaced by one compatable with the new gas well that is what the saden site said

hey pete, when i was in at the mechanics getting the work trucked fixed they had an 88 nz new petrol pajero in there. it had that exact air con compressor in it. it was the one i would need as it takes the two vee belts not that other style.

im on the look out for one now. if you want to try giving canterbury air conditioning a call. i know he has a whole heap of compressors at his place. dont know how much he will charge though

Think I have located a SD507 model, have not seen it or do not know th condition either.

I assume the 7 means 7cubic inch as compared to the 8cubic inch?

You are right on that one. Oh and if it is not the right one go and see some of the bus places, they are a common fitment on Japaneese and chineese buses for their AC systems.

I dont suppose there will be too much difference being one cubic inch less, just take a little longer to pump up they tyres.

Looks like I may have sourced both a SD 507 and a SD 709!

The 507 has a V belt setup and I am yet to find out what the 709 has.

Thre may be some more in the offering too, so if any of you out there are still looking for one, i'll pass on info as and when I find it out.

When I finally get mine, I will be looking for someone wth some engineering skills to help fit it :wink:

, as ther are going to be some custom brackets needed.
Any takers here in Chch area willing to do a little job for some of your favourite poison please?

Ive been searching for one through our local wreckers but haven't had any luck yet. I need a V belt set up.

Wreckers are just a pain in the arse, wont let you look for yourself and want to know the exact model, make, year and engine it comes off.................. humph.

Am wearing myself out with emails to wreckers, many going unanswerd, phonecalls and other searching.
Would be so much easier just to buy one direct from the USA, brand new too for about $200NZ plus shipping, but thats pushing the price a little for a budjet mod! Im determined to find some cheapos locally.

Yeah I've managed to find a few new ones for around the $250 mark, but can't justify that price as I already have a reasonable 12V compressor hooked up in the rear of the surf.

Hi all, I'm looking for a Sanden 12v clutch. I've got two SD715's, enough to build up one compressor but both are 24v.
It's an easy job with a suitable puller to change pulleys and clutches.
I can help out if someone wants Vbelt pulleys or 24v cluthes.
