overheating '89 escudo

Post by teamsuzuki »

hi there, got a '89 escudo with the 8v 1600 engine, 160,000k on the clock, and its currently experiencing overheating problems.
ive flushed the radiator, cleaned the outside of it, (was pretty clogged from the weekends trip) but even with the thermostat removed, it still gets hot.
the fan appears to be working correctly, and i don't beleive its a head gasket problem, as its not losing any water, and the oil is clean.
the next step is the waterpump. anyone had or heard of these being problematic? what does one go for these days?

any help appreciated!!

isn't that the model with the baffle in the exaust manifold that likes to block and cook the engine?

I found this in another thread last night

The primary pipe below the manifold is a twin skin design and they corrode between them which normally crushes the inner pipe causing a build up of heat to go back into the head that then normally cracks it. The manifolds are also prone to cracking too

I have lifted the heat sheald on the manafold tonight to find its cracked Im hoping it hasnt done anything to the head

more than lickley the water pump

also dont take the thermastit out as that will make it get hotter sounds stupid i know but not only douse the thermastat keep the motor at the right temp but also gives the water in the raditor time to coll down

the mrs escudo was the same , kept overheating all the time ... we flushed and flushed and flushed till we couldnt flush no more (and it still floated ...err no wrong thread) anyway upshot of it was we took the radiator into a shop they popped the top and bottom tank off and disovered that it was over 80% blocked .. even after 5 or 6 flushes! ... apperently this is a VERY common problem with the 1600 Escudo's.

since thats been done temp never wavers off midway :P
