And another newbie

Post by New2this »

Gidday Guys,

I'm Ryan and I'm pretty much a complete newbie to this 4x4 stuff.
I bought my first 4WD a little over a year ago to allow me to drive off road to my favorite rock fishing spots.
Problem now is, the drive to the fishing spot has become more fun than the fishing and all I wanna do is dive into some mud.

The 3y in my 89 d/cab hilux is as bout as powerfull as Aunty Helen's sexual appeal..... my front leaf springs are pretty much sitting on the bump stops and the factory shocks might possibly have needed replacing about 200k kms ago! SO other than motor, suspension, drive train and a few good dents, the trucks sweet
:?

Looking forward to learning more.

cool! stuffed/ worn out parts are just an excuse to replace them, and if your replacing them you might as well beef them up a little :D
eg broken things = cool mods! what part of the country are ya in?

I'm on the Coromandel in Whangamata.
I like the cool mods idea, all though I'm sure my wallet wont
I've already been browsing the internet making a wish list but I thought I'd better get some advice before I throw my money away on flashy bits that aren't needed or don't do the job.

yes indeed you can do alot with what you've got, bonus is so many have them and so many have parts for them, id put a decent bet on you being able tp build a pretty bad ass truck with just the left overs in many garages of the guys on here, dont be affraid to ask questions chances are someones done it before, and dont be affraid to ask if your looking for a part, you might get it cheap or maybe even for a few cold ones. good luck im sure once you have the bug there will be no stoppin ya.
ps lots of great guys up your way who run training days and trips ranging from hard yaka to novice, so get amongst it.

That'd be wicked if I could get parts from people on here, not to many 4x4 parts here in whangamata. And the ol' truck could do with a few parts! Especially if I keep backing it into fences like I've just done

Sounds like fun although my truck is probably worse than stock, will it be good enough?

i can't speak for where they are going but if its an option i would go, theres alot to learn from experianced guys, and at least you no theres always someone to tow or winch ya out, always helps to talk to people in person about mods etc

It sounds pretty good, I was thinking of joining a club or similar so I could natter away to people with a bit of know.
Either way it may just be a cool day away from home, and the lawns.
