Seized Disc Caliper

I had a pad go on the back of the Isuzu and scoured the disc, picked up another from the wreckers, got replacement pads and took the wheel off and fitted the disc.
The went to fit the pads and could not get the piston to go back :cry:

I believe that I have seized disc caliper :cry:

Can I fix it myself or do I take it to someone to get it sorted ??

has the caliper got the h/brake as part of it? if it has then you have to turn the piston to make it screw it self back into the caliper,the piston will have cutouts in it if it is this model :wink:

Or they have an allen key under a blanking screw, on the back of the caliper to wind the piston in an out!

Can get you pics of where to look, but not till tomorrow.

Yes It has the hand brake as part of it ...

Are you guys saying that it is likely that it is OK ...

So old but still so muck to learn :roll:

It may be seized, as they are prone for it, but you need to check the adjuster first, there is another site you are aware of that has Isuzu workshop info, it has a run down on Mu hand break issues, this will cover it, but he went the whole hog and stripped it before checking how it was supposed to work.

In that case it was needed as they were seized, hopefully yours will be OK.

you should be able to pull the whole caliper off and refit/renew caliper's piston and do all the seals aswell.. hone out the bore lightly too.. if none of the above solutions work of course..

better to do it once and do it right :wink:

Locate blanking bolt ...
Easy ... There ate only 3 to chose from and it is the only one not holding any thing
Undo blanking bolt ...
Insert Alen key
Remove Alen key
Insert correct size Alen key and rotate
Opps the piston is moving out
Rotate the other way ...
Piston moves smoothly back to where it belongs

Think about refitting it to the truck ...
Hear rain on roof ( Truck wont fit in shed)
Hmm ... think that it will have to wait till morning
