nzhunter's LJ50 Project

Post by nzhunter »

Well here we go, After seeing Dbs lj50 and seeing him build it I thought right about time I rebuilt mine up a bit.
About a year ago I bought this Suzuki lj50 off my neighbour for a couple a hundred just to muck round on the farm with and go possum shooting in.
It had already had alot of work done this included a 4k 1300cc toyota engine, 5spd box, rollcage, flatdeck and alot of stripped down interior etc.

So the plan is to build it up to a safe standard for doing tracks where I can go hard break stuff and not have to worry about driving it to work the next day. It has a HUGE amount of rust so the plan is to do a body swap most likely with DBs parts zuk. It also has a blown center plate of the clutch (I think) This is due to the sudden loss of drive I got when doing a hill climb because it wasn't slipping or anything prior and is making a horrible noise but I'll find out after I've taken the body off and gearbox out. Also welding up the back diff will make a difference. I use a boat fuel tank in the back because the original petrol tank was taken out to fit the deck. The guy before me put the battery in the back because it was rusted out where it originally went. The radiator is the original 500cc one and I don't think its keeping the 4k cool enough so even putting the radiator in the back may be an idea.

But the power to weight ratio is awesome being nearly half the weight it was originally and engine being nearly 3 times more powerful   So I think it'll leave the surf for dead offroad!!

Anyway here are some of the pics of it:

 Faaaaaark, when you said it was bad, you really did mean it was bad

You better come round as soon as i get back from the Sth Island and we can work out a plan for the body of my parts truck!!!

I haven't touched it yet, but i think i might use the floor out of the rear as a starting point for the deck on mine, so i need to know how much of the body you want before i hack it with the body saw. Would hate to mess it up for ya
