The Skippy 101

Post by Dick »

Well, I started with a S1 Landrover. This went good, however I wanted to move to something a little more comfortable and that was road legal.

So I sold the landie, and made money on it (ha) and then brought an '87 Diahatsu Rugger. Its the 2.8 Turbo Diesel model, and goes really good.

It took 7 hours to drive it home from welly, cause I was towing over a tonne of spare parts on the trailer (poor trailer, the springs where so flat it was riding on the axles most of the way home).

Anyway, this is what it looked like the morning after I got home:
Image

No doubt, some of you may recognise this as Jerry's old truck.

Then after dismantling the front bumper, mud flaps, rear step/bumper/thingee, and cleaning the mud from the outside and inside, it looked like this:

Rear stuff gone:

Currently the truck is in the shop at the mo getting all the bar work done.

Havent done anything with the suspension yet, but im not to sure what i should do. The springs are not far from being flat, and im a poor student, so after the bar work, i think im just gonna have to live with semi-flat springs for a while. I mean they are ok, just not as high as i would like.

Will post up pics of the new bar work, when finished.

there was mud inside it? huh? wonders never cease! lol. i actually saw you the day you picked it up, in petone, looked like you were straping all the stuff down on the trailer or checking it. anyway! get some extended shackels for it and get the leafs reset. that will give you some lift for minimal outlay.

Ok, cheers. I will look into getting the leaves reset. Yeah there was heaps of stuff on the trailer. Luckly it was strong.

And talk about mud. There was mud on the dash, mud inside the heater vents, mud on the roof [inside], on the seat. I think Jerry went through a few too many bogs with the window down. ha.

Yeah i have considered that, but have decided that i dont really want to be taking it off and on all the time, and once i've taken it off, the seals would be stuffed, and also when you live where i live, it gets really cold in the winter, and after doing a winter with a roof-less landrover, Im keeping the roof on!!!

At the mo, the truck is in the shop, getting the pto winch put back on, bullbars, side bars, rear bars, and a, well, full external roll cage built.

Then shes getting driven!!!!

Exactly, and when you come home from a weekend in the bush, you end up bringing half of it home with you, not to metion not being watertight anymore, and not being able to lock it up in town, so yeah. The roof aint comming off!! :)
