Hi and Welcome, You will find the Nis(cough)san good for what you want but if you ever want to get a little more extreme and earlier model or different (toyota) brand may help. Sorry it is like the ford holden thing Toyota being the Holden
Nissan with their terranos after 1995 to the current model it lost the proper ladder chassis for better road characteristics, so if you start going too extreme to get to your surf spot you will get a few issues.
I would have thought a Surfer would have picked a Surf
did you get the petrol or diesel?

yeah been reading this site for a bit so learnt bout the surfs overheating tendency, was looking at both surfs and terranos but i got this one with under 100,000 on the clock for under 10g thru a family friend so went the terrano.
Its a 3.2 diesel so a touch thirsty came with 31 x 10.5 tires on it too so thats hangy in the sand as ive already found.
Snorkel is the next purchase on the books

One of the first things I learned about 4wd'ing is that if your not getting it stuck, your not trying hard enough!![]()

A-ha, but this is where ORE members would 'upsell' you on recovery gear... you'll need a winch, ground anchor, strops, tow-rope, gloves... oh and an in-car coffee maker

Have you ever imagined a world with no hypothetical situations?
