Can't comment on the last meeting thast Wopass had with a Wrangler. But hes obviously still smarting.... he couldnt even look at mine on the weekend, aside from a sheepish glance while putting Jack in the car.....

You'll be ok though aye Wopass.... i'm sure i'll be looking at the back of the missile on more than one occasion.

Really? If i wanted to mount them in my wagon, that would mean new harness points (?) And hence the belts themsleves and the additional bar work required for mounting would need to be certed (?) With no standards label, would they get certed?????

With rally cars with out a roll cage (club sport cars, so really just a regular road car ) the way round it is to leave your standard diagonal belts in place, and don't wear the harnesses when driving on the road.

(with rally cars once you have a homologated roll cage the harnesses are legal)

The lab belts anchor to the floor on spereate mounts or you just use your existing mounts and have both the hanress lap belts and standard seat belt of the same mount. As you only ever use one at a time its fine.

The shoulder straps are best mounted to a bar at the same height as where they go accross the back rest (prevents crushing your spine or the harness loosening off in an accident ) but can just as well be mounted to the floor pan behind the front seats. Use sandwich plates or the big square washers to spread the load.

As for a rollcage, yes, you will need a cert if its a full cage, if its just a hoop behind the drivers seat and two rear stays i believe you are ok(provided you have no rear seats. Cert issues come in with the front hoop and stays back to the rear main hoop as you have to have clearence for your head to move with out hitting the cage in an accident. Its the same with the rear seats, you have issues with just a single hoop and stays as the rear passengers may impale themselves on it in an accident.

Don't take my word for it though, its only what i can remeber from when i thought rally driving would be a fun and cheap past time about 4 years ago ( oh how wrong i was with that one), and from what i was told when i was looking at puting a hoop in behind the front seats in the Safari.

have you ever been to a national trial :?: :?:

they have sidlings, hill climbs, mud bogs and speed sections.

a speed day is a trial made up of only speed hazards. if you're vehicle is open top, you will need a cage and harnesses. look back thru this thread where wopass rang the organiser to find out. rolling at speed is far more violent on your truck and the body.

if you have nothing to enter , then just come and watch. there will be plenty of people who may take you for a thrash around a hazard.

cheers

I'm not sure if you think its on the road or wot, but trials are the stuff you watch on TV3 @ 4.30pm on a sunday. they are in farmers paddocks (kind farmers).

If you think a paddock looks flat from the road, you will be amazed what is beyond that 2nd or 3rd fence line.

I hope your learning as you go. If you're still not sure what a trial is, let me know and I'll throw up a link to you tube.

DB... got a bit lost there... hate reading tomes of info on a screen.. must be old fashioned.

So i got a factory cage, whereby the front bolts onto the windscreen frame, the windscreen frame is structural from what i understand, so there should be no problem with whipping the top off and going half naked :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

However, im a bit stumped on where the shoulder straps should be affixed. one side can go onto the original mounting (nip/tuck) but the one going over the left shoulder can be plated into the floor at the rear of the seat??? I was going to whack a bar down off the hoop and plate into the body, then attach left shoulder harness from that.

Fuzzy logic used to be a tv technical phrase, now its just my memory

for those of you that are thinking of entering and are not sure if your truck if suitable or alowable. The best way to find out is to ring the organiser and ask.....................

Moose (Ray Morriss)
07 8831567 (evenings)

and then you will know once and for all.

if you're unsure what a trial is, then check it out............

nup, I was serious. a complete noddy when it came to computers, but thanks to this site and the wealth of talent that it harbours, I have learnt heaps.

Beforehand, I just dialed up the net, checked mail and went on Trade me.
I had ano idea a forum could be so cool.

Sweet, i had no idea the wrangler had factory roll over protection, thats just COOOOOL  ( i only thought it would have a hoop some where)

Cold hard logic suggests that in that case, it would befine for the event, considering they are alowing hard top vehicles to enter with no cage, the hard top being the factory roll over protection.so why not your factory roll over prtection?? Its at least as good as a roof. Checking with the organiser guy would be the best bet huh :D

Back to the harnesses...........(i'll step by step it to try not to confuse my self  )

A four point harness anchors you into your seat with four seperate belts held to the body of thevehicle at four seperate mounting points.

The harness can be divided into the lap belts and the shoulder belts.

A left and right lap belt, and a left and right shoulder belt.

You can make four new mounts by drilling the floor, buying some eye bolts and using a plate under the floor.

Or, taking the driver seat for example, bolt the anchor point of the left lap belt into the same mount as the clip for the seat belt so you have both coming from the same mount. Usually you have to mount the right hand part of the lap belt with a hole in the floor and a plate due to the way the seat belt spool is mounted. No biggy.

The shoulder straps (unless you make a bolt in bar??) can be mounted straight into the floor behind the seats. You run the straps up over the back rest of the seat between the head rest posts and then down at as gentler angle as you can to the floor, drill the hole and bolt em down with a plate under the floor to spread the load.( the gentler the angle the better, any were from 0 - 45 degrees down from the top of the back rest is all good, and 0 - 10 degrees upwards is the is also fine, i doubt you would get pulled up on that 4x4ing))

Makes sense to me when i read it, but i wrote it :? :?

You'll figure it out when ya get ya harnesses man, it'l all make sense 8)
