Ignore the map, Hulux-Happy must of been distracted at the time  I can confirm that it will be Sunday the 2nd!

It's unlikely that a snorkle will be required unless you decide to deviate from the group. i've done the route in my bighorn a couple of times in the last few weeks and I don't have a snorkle

Awsome!... better allow for an extra 1/2 hour at the meeting point so I get a chance to check out your mods to your bighorn

How far up river are you planning to go? - how far did you get last time?

we got upto where the two rivers join not far west of rangiora bridge. as we are starting from sh1 i is the sort of thing that we go up to split in river then head back to where we started. would be great if you came along as you may know places we dont, but we are happy to explore and tack the same track we took last time. cheers :D

May come along if I can fit things in - the main 'official' 4x4 track starts after the Makerikeri river (where you mention the rivers split) and goes up to the Okuku River, if time is the limit then you can pop out at the Okuku and head back to town via the seal through Rangiora instead of back down to SH1.

Last time I took him on a trip he said Woo Hoo revenge for when I was driving, then like the donkey on Shrek (come on it is an adults movie) it was:

Are we there yet? (10 minute intervals)
I'm boored! (5 minute intervals)
I want an ice cream (every town or dairy petrol station)
Oh and the obvious race to the drivers seat when we stopped

One wonders why my mum is asking me when I will settle down.

I got him an Ice cream in the end and he went quiet, also bought chewy toffees for when the ice cream was gone. I think I will leave him at home he has my other Hilux there anyway! and uses it! I like the petrol one more.

yes yes yes, dads are allowed, but someone bring the chewy toffies as we dont want any grumpy dads.

as for standard 4wd's, well hmmmm. :?

honistly the track is muddy and getting stuck is all part of it. so rated tow hooks are a "MUST". if it has rained in the week then the track conditions will be slippery and muddy so all terrains are a minumin. you wont need a snorkel or mud tyres but if you do then you can do the knarlier stuff along the track. just remember that safety is a main concern but we also want you to have a good day and we dont want to spend the whole time pulling 4wd's out of stuff that they shouldn't be doing. just keep in mind if inviting freind with 4wd's that arnt set-up. all good guys you can always come along and asess the track for later trips.

and on another note.

good, nice as the track had dryed out abit. but since we have had rain this week, id say she will be fairly muddy. im hoping anyway :D . any time sapent in the truck before the mud-plug is a bonus for me. i have been to waimak twice this week already. if you haven't been before you will love it. much like the waimak trip a few sats. ago with petefj40. good variety on the one track.

There is one section of the 'track' (I say track loosely as there is no set track from SH1 to Rangiora bridge) that will scratch your paint work as you go through a patch of broom but again there are ways around it. In fact any where along there you can resort to either the good track on the top of the stop bank or the open river bed.

Based on past outings on the ashley, I wouldn't be surprised if there are still some of us on the track after dark

It's looking like it will be a populated trip... I just read through all the posts and it seems like there might be upwards of 11 vehicles! :D Will be nice to meet quite a few new ORE members/supporters and see what their trucks can do
